Push-ups, pull-ups and sit-ups are time-honored exercises. They help define particular muscles. How much they will work for you depends on your life-style, diet and work-out regimen.

The muscles work under tension. Thus, either the muscle grows bigger or tears apart. Usually, in people, after some period of tearing, the muscle becomes bigger and better able to handle tension.
