It's always baffled me how the black cat superstition persists in today's culture (yes, even in "atheist" Europe lol). Hell, even non-religious people still fall for that superstition. It's just a cat with black-colored fur; get over it!

I love black cats. Most I've met are absolutely stunning. And I have to admit that mysterious vibe of them is something I love. If I were to get a cat, I'd definitely love a black cat.

The superstition is most often that they are good luck actually....

It varies. In America, Iberia, and Eastern Europe, black cats are associated with withcraft, evil, and bad luck.

You'd be surprised how a lot of people today in those places still believe in that superstition.

MOstly due to church politics.. anything that was pagan (such as witchcraft. which is nothing more but herbal lore and pagan spirit-wisdom... it means "wisdom power" literally). was deemed evil.. black cats being considered magical.. were obvioulsy relegated to the evil side of things.... same happened to Lucifer.. which is just the Roman morning star (light bringer).. and the Daemon... which is your guardian angel / conscience in pagan pre-christian greek religion

There is this big, black, homeless cat that hangs around my apartment complex. I often see it (I don't know its sex) when I go out to jog. It's very friendly too. One of the few outdoor cats that seems eager to approach people whereas most street cats flee from the sight of people.

Too bad it seems to have a bit of a snot problem. It always has some kind of snot or slobber around its mouth and nose when I see it, ew.

I heard Bombay cats are the best. Super playful, affectionate, and they even fetch.

Superstition or not....I love my cat (Eliza) and she's very affectionate, playful and the funny thing is that she adopted me...she appeared in front of my door hungry and quite thirsty and is always waiting for me when I return home from work....oh yeah and she has lovely green eyes icon_cool.gif

I worked at a vet hospital for 5 years than at the SPCA for a summer: People love non-black cats because they look different and distinct. The gingers and white cats go first (even though the white cats usually have blues eyes and are deaf - albino genetics!), then the calicos and tiger-stripes. The blacks are always last because they look the same. icon_confused.gif
