A guy at my gym asked my advice about weight loss.
I don't do much cardio and weight loss has never been an area that I have needed. I struggle to keep the weight ON.
He said he wanted to lose between 8 and 10 kg in 3 months.
Would this be achievable on a strict diet and cardio or is 8kg way too much to lose?

Yes, one could - depending. Depends on his current condition (how much body fat) and how much he exercises. Years ago, when I was not toned, (but not what most people would consider fat) and started running daily, I lost 1/2 pound per day (approximately .23 Kilos).

i lost 30 pounds in three months, 20 in the first month of august and ten in september and october. i attribute that to great cardio (low impact) and a good diet.

my most recent 30 pounds though is due to a very flexible diet plan but no cardio (i wish i could do the cardio but i cant get to the gym anymore icon_razz.gif) i limit my calories to under 1000 a day. no snacks and high protein meals that are low in fat. if i get hungry i fill up on tea and sugar twin.

so yes... it is entirely possible icon_smile.gif

I reckon that a weight loss of 1 kg (2.2lb) a week is achievable and safe. If someone increases the amount of physical activity they do and reduces their calorie intake it works. This gradual weight loss is the most effective way of preventing the yoo-yoo effect which almost always follows rapid weight loss when the weight soots up again.

So your friend should do well. May I ask why he wants to lose weight?
