What is really a hook up and is hook up bad?

So, I'm not really a hook up person. I'm more of a dating guy. However, I'm still very confused of what is hook up. So, I would go out w a guy that I've talked and met online for couple days then we went out as "date" and then we had sex (not apply to all of the guys, it depends on how the dates go) and we still keep in touch after that. I've done that couple of times and I considered them as "dates" but not "hook-ups". Cause to me, hooking-up mean you just meet up and then fuck and go never talked again. In my case, I still keep in touch wit all the guys I had sex wit.
So, my cousin disagreed with me and she said that what I'm doing was hooking up to people just like the show "Jersey Shore" bahahaha and it's a very SINFUL lifestyle to her point of view. We got into an argument lol to my opinion, even though I don't really do hook ups like that (fuck and go and never talked again), as long as you are practicing safe sex and you are single, hooking up is not bad. Just don't cheat, don't spread the diseases or unwanted baby to heterosexual case then I have nothing to against hook-ups.

    What's your opinions?

Your cousin needs more sex. And it's a hookup when you or the other guy doesn't call back. I've been on "dates" that I later realized were actually hookups. That's why you just don't put out on the first date unless you want to risk it.

First let me congratulate you on finding some intimacy with another guy. Having said that, you are young, I'm not, please, please do not let the religious concept of "sin" as your cousin called it, stop you from exploring and enjoying your sexuality. Take it from a guy who didn't do this when I was your age and I regret it. You have plenty of time to settle down in your future. Hook up or dating, it doesn't matter what you call it, it's sexual connection. Guys who've slept with a lot of men might tell you different, but they have had a lot of sex when they were young like you. Now they can say "oh its bad, dont hook up." but take it from someone who didn't when he was young, enjoy yourself man.

There's a difference. A one night stand is when you have sex with a guy and you never call back. A hookup is when you have sex with a guy and both parties keep in touch because that eventually turns into fuck buddies.

I think of hooking up as sexual activity with somebody you're not in a relationship with. If you date a guy once and then have sex, whether you keep in touch or not, I'd call that a hook up. You can also hook up with people you know, I had a coworker I was friendly with and one night we had drinks after work and ended up doing oral sex and then went back to being coworkers and friends, I consider that a hook up too.

OOOh yea it makes sense now. So I actually hooked up with those people and now eventually we turn out to be friends. I wouldn't do it again to any of them thou even though they offered. I do want to explore my sexuality. However, there's still something inside me that kinda hold back and tells me that it's bad and slutty or whatever. There are hot guys that I met that wanted to have sex w me only, even though I wanted to but I still think it's bad and I shouldn't do that so often. My cousin dates 2 guys in her life and they last for at least 3 years so according to her sex is for the two person who has feelings toward each other, therefore it should be beautiful. It is supposedly for the two persons to get close to each other more, to celebrate their relationship. But I think it depends on the person.

Why do you need a definition? Provided it is legal and does no harm to anyone, do whatever you feel comfortable doing.

Well, if we take your cousin's advice... I've had plenty of hookups that were beautiful....and then they went home, so the memory of the hookup remains beautiful.

On the other hand, I've had some relationships that were beautiful, and then later, werent really....

define it as you see fit, but it's only "bad" if one person isn't being honest about what he wants... or if both of them aren't.

Some hookups are amazing, wonderful experiences that are worth remembering. But not that many are like this. Some are awful. Most are just fun but forgettable. Here's a clearer definition: a hookup is a sexual encounter with no intention of becoming a couple.
