I'm not sure if this has been posted before now, but I wanted to bring this video to attention.

I watched it twice in a row, and broke down crying the second time. It was the accumulation of what I've been going through the past year and the raw emotion of the video that brought me to tears.

Anyways, thought you'd like a look.

    Thank you for posting this!!!

If you want to know why progress comes so slow, blame the Republicans. Their organized fight to stuff gays back into the closets and shadows is for them, a wedge issue that's easy to distort and increase religious voter turnout.

But getting Republicans to "see the truth" is like convincing a con-artist that his con is actually a con. A complete waste of time. He already knows its a con. The GOP stirs up and spreads homophobia not out of a sincere belief, but to win elections. So, we must work to defeat them at the polls. Take their power away.

I recommend you join the fighters who are on the front lines. Find the gay friendly candidates (99% Democrats) or ballot issues and volunteer for them. Join a gay club involved with politics. You will meet people who care as much about gay rights as you do, and you'll have a great time....but more importantly, it will be a catharsis for your mind and soul. You will replace that sense of powerlessness...with one of pride.

southbeach1500 saidWhat does "gay rights" mean to you? (I'm also asking this of anyone else who stops by to read this topic).

Equality. The right to marry. The safety of secure employment. Equal benefits as heterosexual couples.

What are you fishing for Southbeach? I'm pretty sure that video was self explanatory...

Gay people should be treated just like straight people. The right to marry, adopt, serve in the military, etc. Not be discriminated against

I want a free turkey sandwich every tuesday and the ability to legally park on sidewalks. If I get that, they can have their marriage.

southbeach trots out this same illogical argument for each election cycle.

"The Democrats haven't given enough civil rights to gays, so abandon them to vote instead for the Republicans, who want to take away the few gay civil rights you already have."

What is even more fantastic about this irrational proposition is that the obstacles the Democrats have faced regarding promoting gay rights have been placed there by the Republicans. So that the Republicans are saying in effect:

"Even though we Republicans made sure the Democrats failed to help you gays enough, we want you to blame them alone for that failure, and reward us instead by voting for our thoroughly anti-gay platforms and proposed legislation."

Because as southbeach refuses to acknowledge, and in fact tells an opposite false story, the Party of No locked down the US Congress for much of Obama's first term. Especially in the Senate where the Dems, aided by 2 Independents, had but 1 month in 2009 when they had a shaky 60-vote supermajority ability to close off Republican filibusters.

Also overlooked in this falsehood is that the fact that Obama Administration has done more for gays and gay civil rights than any other administration in history. Despite overwhelming and united Republican opposition to gay rights, and their perverting the business of the Congress with an extreme right-wing conservative social agenda, when what millions of Americans most need is economic solutions.

Watched the Video, it was very touching and showed how far LGBT people have come towards acceptance and equality.

Gay Rights is like human rights. We deserve the same treatment as everyone else.

Interesting to note in the video how all those guys condemning Gays look like closet Gays. Surely that's not possible?

Gay rights is being treated as a 100% human being with all human rights endowed.

Sobe, the difference, which you might well have imagined and possibly expressed if you weren't so hell-bent on taking every possible opportunity to incite annoyance, is that one party refuses to commit political suicide by acting unilaterally but instead makes advances with respect to human rights incrementally as the level of the country's consciousness is raised to be able to accept others previously perceived as different for how we are all the same and deserving of the same rights. The other party works to obstruct that progress.

I'm not saying that the republican view is worthless in this regard, just as a brake has its value next to the gas pedal of an automobile, but your attempts to draw a parallel comparison between being in a party of obstructionists (on this front) with being in a party of promoters is ludicrous. That the democrats sometimes let the car coast is not the same as applying the brakes and you know it.

southbeach1500 saidWhere's Federally recognized gay marriage? Oh, it's in 2013, once the Democrats take back Congress and re-elect Obama.... Right.....

Recognized rights are in your hands, Sobe, in how you conduct yourself, in how you denounce all who would stand in our Gay way to be treated as full 100% human beings, in how you insist that your family and friends support yours and our cause for equal rights. This has less to do with party, Sobe, and more to do with conscience. Not that your political critique is completely without merit, but attack from this angle instead and see if you do not get further than trying to make lame your economic opposition with friendly fire on a social issue both you and your political opponents would benefit from in a theater of war where your worst enemy is your best ally.
