Does anybody else have large back and forth shifts in weight in relatively short time periods?

My weight constantly yo-yos back and forth in short spans of time. I'm talking 30-40+ lbs shifts up and down every 6 months to a year with smaller shift intervals of maybe 20 lbs (So for example my weight will go up 10 to 20 lbs, then go down 5 or 10, then go up another 10 to 15, then go back down 5, etc).

Sometimes I don't even notice it, hard as it is to believe. This past summer in June I was around 215 lbs. I weighed myself 2 days ago and was 183. It's been going on for maybe the past 5-7 years. I'll be 195, then back down to 170something, back to 185ish, back down to 170, up to 200 something, back down to 180's. It's most shocking when I put on pants. This past summer I had to squeeze into waist size 36, right now I'm back to 30.

Should I be concerned? Does anybody else experience this?

Can you think of any significant diet changes around the shifts?

Never heard this happening unless someone was doing it for a reason or on purpose like DiNiro did in Raging Bull.

    Does your diet change seasonally??

do you take protein supplements? It has to be diet related. Personally, my weight has stablized for at least 3 yrs and NEVER varies more than 2-3 pounds ; my food intake is pretty consistent and I'm very careful and disiplined in terms of what foods I eat.

It's not so much that I'm baffled as to WHY it happens (I'm clearly eating more when I weigh more, eating less when I weigh less, although I am eating basically the same foods). it's more of an observation that it does (but I don't intentionally decide one day to eat more or one day to eat less, it just...happens I do).

Are you a mesomorph? You could just pack on weight super easily.

I rarely ever fluctuate beyond 2-3 pounds unless I'm eating like 10 meals a day.

    Same here.
My trainers been on vacation for 6 weeks, during this time Ive stuck to the plan he left me, same meals etc. Except for Xmas over indulging.
I managed to go from 209lbs to 200lb while I ate everything at xmas, I normally wouldnt.
Then this past week I re weighed just to see what was going on and Im now down to 191lbs
( PS a great tool on RJ would be a weights and measure converter!).
My workout hasnt changed, if anything without my trainer around I have probably not pushed myself quite as hard.
The only thing I can think of is being summer and incredibly hot here 105F to 106F for the past week and maybe my metabolism works faster in hot weather? I do seem to feel more energised in the heat.
Who knows Im no expert I have just found this interesting as most of my adult sedentary life my weight rarely shifted up or down.

I had been yo-yo-ing within 5 pounds for the last month and a half or so. Then my trainer and I talked about having a little weight loss contest - he's trying to cut for a body building competition.

Without even trying I suddenly dropped 5 pounds. - I actually ate more carbs yesterday because I wanted to slow that down a bit.

I usually only waiver within 5 pounds. I did have an all out cheat weekend a few weeks ago - I went up 7 pounds, but dropped them within a day or two.
