RIP my longtime moka pot

I knew this day would come, but I didn't expect it so suddenly. My favorite moka pot has met its fate and gone kaput. The filter and rubber guard are completely busted now. It means I can't brew espresso in it anymore. The worst thing is that the brand of the pot no longer exists and Bialetti's models aren't comparable, so I can't replace the parts icon_sad.gif

You see, my moka pot is older than me! My mom bought at Todo a Cien (Spain's version of the dollar store) a few years before I was born. Then she gave me the pot when I went off to college, so I've had it ever since. It's given me many fond, caffeinated memories.

Bialetti's moka pots are fine and all, but it just won't be the same as this old one from the Spanish dollar store.

I didn't know what a moka pot was unitl now. Did you have a little ceremony to send it off?

Can you find one on ebay to supply donor parts?

Sadly no, because my pot was bought in Spain and the brand doesn't exist anymore! Most of the standard sizes now don't fit my pot.

Ebay has a function that notifies you when a keyword occurs in new listings. Don't lose hope...you'd be amazed at the rare and oddball stuff that becomes available on there.

I understand your loss....I have some old kitchen items that my mom gave me, and I remember from when I was a kid.

Haha! I don't plan to get rid of the pot. I mean, the thing is probably 30 years old. I'm only 26. Damn right I'm going to save it even if only as a knickknack. I just can't brew espresso in it anymore. I have no problem using my Bialetti pot from now on.

Ebay always comes to the rescue sooner or later if you search regularly like once a week. I buy and sell on Ebay as a hobby, retro stuff, restored vintage appliances etc.. If I'm looking for a part it eventually turns up or I just buy a complete one and take the parts I need off .

What's the make of this little coffemaker?

Time to upgrade. I bought a moka from Bodum. Seems durable. The seal is made from silicone. So I'm pretty sure it will last a while.

As a fellow espresso junky, I feel your pain. Perhaps you could go to a hardware store and find a gasket that is a close fit.

Brewing coffee in my Bialetti pot right now. My heart can't help but feel a little broken icon_cry.gif
