Headed to Palm Springs tomorrow to relax for the night. Anyone have suggestions for ways to have relaxing fun in Palm Springs? Open to spending time at quality gay-friendly establishments but not necessarily looking for that. I just want to have a relaxing hot summer evening. Any suggestions appreciated!

There are good sidewalk cafe type places along Palm Canyon to check out. Also along El Paseo in Palm Desert. Great guy watching areas - both of them.

I like a few of the little inns just west of Palm Canyon - gay friendly and hot - walled places with some good looking guys lying poolside. You will have fun!

The gay scene's pretty... calm. (I grew up in Palm Springs.) But the entire city is gay-friendly. Gays are like 40% of the permanent residents... Or something.

I'd say make the most of the amazing restaurants. The Viceroy, Tuscan Grill, and Johannes and Le Vallauris all spring to mind as good places to go.

Have a spa day at Spa Resort and get a massage. You'll feel like a newborn.

There are a few gay restaurants on Arenas as well as a few bars. They're OK, but I'm a little spoiled where I am now... :-) And if you want to stay in a gay hotel, then you basically have to stay in Warm Sands. Hotel Korakia is really, really nice if you want a non-gay hotel that's quite nice.

There's a ton of nude hotels/spas that are fun!

I'm actually staying at the Viceroy because it's dog-friendly so it's good to know the restaurant there is good - thanks for all the advice!

There are a ton of things to do here. Obviously, what to do depends on what your interests are. So instead of reproducing an activities calendar, I'd suggest starting with the local gay press to see what's going on.

    Live Magazine is at http://www.palmspringsliveonline.tv/.

Yes, we also have hotels ranging from pretentious to sleazy. If your goal is to be downtown within walking distance of the casino and gay nightclubs (on Arenas Rd.), a lot of our repeat visitors either choose the Best Western (literally about 50 feet from Arenas) or the Hyatt downtown. Neither is a 'gay' hotel. If your goal is to hookup with others, then the hotels in Warm Sands are where you should be.

Arenas Road has Hunters, Streetbar, Spurline and Score (all nightclubs) and Bongo Johnny's (for a relaxed lunch). There's also shopping (Gay Mart). Off Arenas, but still in Palm Springs is Hamburger Mary's, Zin and Johannes (for food) and Toucan's (another gay nightclub). There's also the slightly upscale Dinks and the well regarded Trio (both restaurants). If it's a nice day and you'd like to enjoy a meal or a drink outside, I'd suggest Azul. Azul has a mixed, lively bar crowd at their outside bar during the day. At night, Azul opens a video bar upstairs named George's Alibi.

If you're into dancing, the places to go are either Hunters or Toucans. Hunters is a larger club. Toucans is the friendlier one. Either place will have a decent crowd after 10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Email me directly if you have any questions I can help with. We love our tourists and are readily available for advice when asked. icon_smile.gif

And, by the way, the days will probably be in the 80s in early April, so don't forget your sunblock! icon_smile.gif

Check out AZUL (awarded Restaurant of the Year), and also the new Georgie's Alibi located upstairs (same name as the one here in Wilton Manors). Ask to see if owner George Kessinger is around (don't mispronounce it "KISSinger" as in Henry). Tell him that Carmine & Bob in Wilton Manors recommended you go there. It may either get you a free drink, or thrown out on your ass. icon_wink.gif And assure him we're still planning to get out there soon.

Wow! Thanks for the advice, its nice to get advice from the locals, I can search the web all I want but it doesn't seem up to date or unsolicited. I'm going for white party, but will definitely check out azul and hunters! Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy more of palm springs other than the crazy parties =)

Hurry up and secure a place to stay - many of the resorts (both gay and straight) sell out for White Party quite early.

Thinking of going somewhere warm and friendly for a few days, but still trying to answer the question, "what is there to DO there?" I mean besides eating and drinking.

Usually, I'd think of going somewhere to SCUBA or sail, but PS is relatively much closer...

You can go for a hike in the mountains if you want recreation. Other than that, pool, golf and tennis. Besides the gays, it is a lot of retirees. There is some iconic modernist architecture too, if you're interested in looking.
