Message. Preferred. IM should be reserved for people you know.

I just don't feel comfortable starting a conversation with a stranger unless they are within 10 years of my age. I have to open the profile name to check the stats with IM. So, I try to keep IM turned off.

If I want to talk to someone, I am going to IM then and say hey. If I message them I feel like I am passing a note in a 4th grade classroom.

Send a message that says "Sup".

Then a day or so later, a message that says, "Unlock"

Then a day or so later, a message that says, "Wanna cam?"

    That should do it.

Message first and then ask if it's okay to IM. For some reason that just seems to be proper etiquette if there is such a thing online.

I don't mind an IM at first if the guy has something to say, but most are just fishing for someone to jerk off with.

I kind of hope this thread is helpful to newer people.

When I first started my account - I didn't message people, but I would randomly hotlist and/or buddy list people before I had spoken with them.

I now reserve that for people I am acquainted with, too.

I love getting messages. So it is my preference.
