and i would say let experience be your guide

    i have visited

    1. Nigeria - work
    3. Uganda - vacation
    5. United Arab Emirates - vacation
    6. Barbados - vaction - several times per year.
    8. Malaysia - work
    9. Egypt - vacation

they are no less welcoming to gay visitors than the us or most other countries appear to be.

Why go to Montenegro when you can go to Croatia or Slovenia for a pleasant Balkan experience without the gay backlash?

Virtually most of the Balkans, former Yugoslavia, and Eastern Europe aren't terribly gay friendly, even the countries that part of the EU. While some have adopted anti-discrimination laws, they're largely ignored in practice. They have a long, long way to go on progress.

Ignoring for a minute the liberal bashing, do you really want to spend your money supporting a government that not only believes that it is ok to bash fags but in fact encourages their (our) extermination? Of course, you will find decent loving people in every part of the world but don't mistake that for your next holiday destination.

the government of barbados does not believe it is ok to bash gays and it has never advocated this. as a matter of fact. barbados is said to be the bisexual capital of the caribbean.

nigeria and uganda perhaps- ably assisted by american evangelical christians aligned with the republican party.

    I'm bummed about Belize.

Question, when you visited those countries, were you accompanied by your BF/Lifepartner? Did you hold hands or kiss him in view of others?

No doubt people would look crosseyed at you for doing that in the US and we have plenty of our own hills to climb, but I suspect the consequences for kissing your same sex partner in Uganda are a bit more dire than being called a "fag"

And I agree with your quote about our "evangeilicals"... many are up to no good.

on vacations i have been accompanied by bfs. we didn't hold hands or kissed in public. i live in nyc and i have never done that here either .

i'm sure there are parts in the usa that would elicit the same reaction from the locals as would be elicited from the folks in uganda.

southbeach1500 saidOne other thing to note. The list is compiled by the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (IGLA) which is located in Ft. Lauderdale, home to one of the gayest ghettos in the USA, Wilton Manors.

People there tend to live every aspect of their life as "gay" as possible - they go to gay eyeglass shops, go to gay banks, socialize only with other gays. So the rather "frightened of the straight world" bias has obviously made its way in the compilation of this list.
As do the gays that live in GASP... SOUTHBEACH! Woah what a surprise..........

Some gays are scarred of the harassment of straights. There is nothing wrong with that.
SB isnt.. he plays straight to avoid that!
