This may be a dumb question, but how long did it take you FFG's to overcome your body image issues?

This is my biggest struggle. - I was chatting with my trainer yesterday and made the comment that I was the fattest person in the gym. - He was shocked and was trying to point out very fit people that he said were bigger than me. - I don't see it.

I am slowly starting to become more comfortable in my body. In fact, today looking in the funhouse gym mirrors, I could see my arms have come quite a long way - especially when I was doing the 5 sets of 100 bench dips I was challenged to do.

So how long did it take for all of you until you stopped seeing the fat person staring back at you in the mirror and became confident in your body? Are there any tips on overcoming this?

    Thanks.

Uhhh....dunno what an FFG is, but, took quite a while. I'd say, once I turned 21, I eventually just said "Aw hell, you're not a supermodel. Get over it." That's when my confidence was just in its blooming days. My confidence hasn't fully bloomed, but, I'm a work in progress.

To be honest, I don't think it ever goes away. I know I'm not fat anymore, but I still feel awkward and unattractive. Even when someone tells me I'm handsome now, I don't believe it. I really don't.

You have a lot to be proud of! And I will say you look great even if you don't see it yet!

I have good days and bad days. A lot of times I look at myself in the mirror and think damn, the progress I've made is amazing. Sometimes I still see the fat me, especially because I still have pockets/loose areas around my waist that are still going to take a while to get rid of. And I'll start comparing myself to the dudes in the gym with perfect bodies, knowing I probably still have a couple years before I get there. I normally shake out of it though.

I'll be honest...I took pictures of myself yesterday for the first time in a few months and it verified that I have some degree of body dysmorphia because I looked a lot better in the pictures than what my self image was. Regardless, keep at it- you've done something amazing and I know you wouldn't give back the progress you've made for anything.

Look would someone please tell me what a FFG is? I gather it's something to do with fat.

As long as body image is what you focus on, whether it's good or bad, you will have a difficult time getting over it. Focus on being healthy, happy and becoming a better person (this is not to imply that you aren't a good person-just one becoming better.)

You will then find your self image improve, even as it becomes a progressively more trivial aspect of better man you're becoming.
