The Passing of the Red Vespa

I sold my red Vespa scooter today.

I hadn't ridden it in a while, too infirm for it. It was the inspiration for my first RealJock account name in 2008, Red_Vespa.

I can still ride a bicycle, though, already registered for the next HIV/AIDS fundraising SMART Ride down to Key West this November, my fifth time. But riding in traffic at higher speeds had become too risky, as much to others as to myself.

I try to stay physically active, just recently taken up golf, but sometimes you have to read the writing on the wall, and accept the inevitable with good grace.

So I guess my 2-wheeled motoring days are over, after nearly 46 licensed years. One of those milestones in your life that is more like a tombstone. And I confess I'm not handling it very well. icon_cry.gif

Nope, though a lot of right-wingers here would wish it. Sorry to disappoint you.

Thanks. I only sold it from infirmity, not insolvency.

Still, I naturally might have preferred this had been deferred for another 20 years. I didn't get that break.

I'm worried more about my partner than me. I made myself so essential to his life, so what happens if I go before him? A selfish tactic that may now backfire on me, and on him, and something for others to consider in their own relationships.

Now what about the car? Or someone may be passing if you keep driving and having seizures.

I have no car. I bought my partner a car as a Christmas present, but I currently have no motor vehicle myself. The Vespa scooter, that I haven't ridden in a while, was sold today.

Though interestingly I've never had a seizure riding a motorcycle or the scooter, and in a car the most that happens to me is that I get disoriented, and don't know where I am, nor why I'm driving, and where I'm going. It's kinda frightening, but I'm used to it and know what to do. When this happens I pull over and wait until it passes, until I again know where I am.

So you needn't worry about me (as if you honestly would), nor worry about anyone else. I'm extremely cautious, and go months between when I try to drive a car, with my partner at my side. And the State of Florida still says I can legally drive.

Thanks, you were one of the few RJers who saw it. I had become too weak to ride it, and I was losing money to depreciation each day I didn't sell it.

It was indeed fun, and at 250cc pretty peppy. But don't let anyone here on RJ know when you've got one, the right wingers savaged me over it. There are a few who still call me "Red" to this day to mock me.
