I live in a state that is very conserative and we dont have a very big gay community. I have been lonely lately and thinking of getting a french bulldog. I know, they are uber-gay, but they seem like great dogs. Anyone have one? Thoughts?

Are you home for a lot of the day? Do you have room for them to run around outside? Will you take him out to go often? Will you feed him good food, not scraps? Will you make sure he doesn't bark like a nightmare and bother neighbours? Will you never hit him? Will you doggyproof your home? Will you get him/her neutered/spayed with shots? Will you treat him like more than just a tool to lift your mood when you come home and then neglect?

If the answers are yes to all, go for it! And take pictures.

French Bulldogs have lots of health problems, as to most purebred dogs. If you really care about animals, I would encourage you to adopt. There is just no justifiable reason to purchase a dog when we have so many homeless already. Each time a dog is purchased, another homeless dog is killed in it's place. If you absolutely insist on a French Bulldog, find a French Bulldog rescue group and adopt one from them.

They're really cute, but this thread will be flooded with "you're a jerk for not adopting from your local shelter" posts in 3....2.....1.....

Well, to buy a dog while pretending that millions of homeless dogs aren't being killed due to overpopulation, is pretty much the opposite of what a true animal lover would do. You don't get a dog because of the way it looks. You give a dog a home because it needs a home.

This is an old film and contains a major error. It says there is nothing wrong with buying from a reputable breeder, but that's not correct. Even if the breeder raises the puppies in a loving environment, it still doesn't change the fact that we are overpopulated with dogs and cats.

Purebreds need love too and can also chase away the blues. Why not a french poodle? I've had no problem meeting people with this pair:

    Same ol' schtick by Scruffy.

You should save that biting advice and redirect it toward something more constructive, such as guilting existing dog and cat owners into sterilizing their pets. They are the reason why there are so many unwanted animals that must be euthanized each year. Guilting people who have an appreciation for certain breeds is not appropriate. Save it for the irresponsible pet owners who are causing the problem in the first place.

It's not a "schtick" asshole. It's the fucking FACTS. You're just too stupid (or cruel) to see the truth. Sterilizing animals is only PART of the answer. Even if every pet owner in America sterilized their pets, we would still be killing dogs and cats by the millions due to ignorant people like you who insist it's their right to breed and buy more and more animals, regardless of the suffering it causes.

You're hostile, angry and unnecessarily resort to insults which completely debases your ability to argue effectively.

I'm not into purebreds only, for your information.

You have nothing of value to say. You're like one of those hostile green peace activists whom people can't help but wonder about the stability of his mental capacity.

Time for your medication, I imagine.

As usual, each and every post you make always has that nasty air of superiority and bitchiness, then you try and act shocked when people respond with hostility. So go make up more "facts" about subjects you know nothing about, because obviously you need that to feel important.

We all know about the terrible amount of euthanized dogs and cats.
Some of us just don't care.

I'd love to have a medium sized poodle. They're one of the smartest dogs, no?

Maybe someday I'll get one. icon_smile.gif

They're among the smartest and most agile, they're hypoallergenic (shedding skin dander monthly instead of daily and never shedding hair) and to those who know their history, standard poodles are pretty butch. They were bred as retrievers - the poufy haircuts were designed to keep their vital organs warm yet prevent them from drowning due to their heavy coats when they'd dive into icy water to retrieve ducks, and the ribbons came about as a means of identifying one hunter's dog from another. They're actually german but since people think of them as french and Alpha_Muscle is considering a french bulldog I figured I'd reference french poodles.

That's your interpretation of how you perceive my inflection with what I say.

However, the use of terms like asshole, stupid, ignorant, cruel, etc is nothing more than an over-exaggerated emotional response. You're basically trying to guilt the OP into doing what you feel is right. You brought your agenda into a topic that has nothing to do with what the OP asked. You're basically soliciting.

Start your own thread about what you feel people are supposed to do according to your standards.

I used to work in an animal veterinarian hospital years ago. I found that the people that worked there thought they were do gooders because they touted how much they valued animal life. Meanwhile, they treated people like shit. You remind me the dysfunctional animal loving kennel assistants I worked with and will never do again.

I called YOU the asshole...not the OP. And you got called an asshole because you had to interject your sassy mouth and make a sad attempt at punishing, as usual. And I really couldn't care less about your psychological comparison between me and your "kennel assistants." Not all people who work in veterinary hospitals are good people. Many do it simply for a paycheck, and from your ignorance and arrogance concerning the welfare of animals, I suspect you're one of them.

Aren't you in your forties? Your sophomoric name calling and hostility reminds me of people half your age.

The majority of animals that wind up in kill shelters are not purebreds. They're the result of irresponsible pet owners who don't value animal sterilization. Two cats alone can result in one million cats in ten years if left to copulate to their hormones' content. That has nothing to do with purebred efforts.

You'll never be taken seriously if you can't debate your point of view without resorting to name calling. It's that simple. You make animal rights activists look very bad.

You're absolutely right. I should just snidely refer to someone's concern for animals as a "schtick" and pretend it's not inflammatory.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think of the "Bloop" from Lost in Space when they see a French Bull Dog?

    ...

    Just me?

I suspected that might be the case.

So let me get caught up here...

Poodles are the most queefy looking animals in the world.

    MMTM had an attacky/superiority-y tone.

Scruffy defeated himself when resorting to cursing.

Videos unearthed from Ancient Egypt with music to manipulate the viewers gets skipped by me because the cause shouldn't need that shit if it's legitimate.

Anduru finds the weirdest animated GIFS.

Ariodante is now one with the universe.

We should try to get dogs from shelters because they are the most at risk of kicking the bucket.

We should spay & neuter as Bob Barker wisely begs.

We shouldn't get animals from breeders because they make more animals and there are already too many animals.

    Miss anything?
