Full body workouts, with emphasis on climbing exercises (pullups, squats, lunges, etc).
I'm not a pole dancer, but have known several...even met one last night who's been doing it for a living for a few years.

I do - you won't believe how hard you'll work your abs.

You'll have the upper-body strength in spades (at least compared to female dancers), but may not have the flexibility, so work on that. Some of the moves you just can't muscle through.

Any ab work will help. Also, shoulder strengthening - some moves put a LOT of stress on your shoulders.

Grip is vital so if you have a squeeze ball or some such grip strengthener, use that.

Best of luck with it and best wishes for a safe return home.

Like EliStark said, your upper body strength and overall muscularity will help you get a lot of good power and strength needed for some of the crazier moves. Work on the flexibility like he said, and you will do well.

Pole dancing is some crazy-ass fun, for anyone who hasn't tried it yet.

    Come to Denver.

In my time in Colorado, I have gained much experience with soldiers and poles. Also at have knowledge of Air Force and USMC pole-related operations.

I will assist you in your pole-centric activities.

For our more obtuse friends, yes, this is a buttsex joke.

You should look into TRX and other suspension type training. That's something you can do now to help develop your upper body strength.

One of my best buds was a stripper. He was built like a brick. He talked more about his diet than he did his exercise routine. That man would not mess with carbs.

As with any athletic activity I'd strongly recommend you look into the proper footwear for optimal athletic performance.
