What's in a name?

How do you respond to profile names?

I saw a similar post regarding profile names like "college jock" or "gymguy32," asking the general response to fitness related names.

But what about other profile names? Do you even notice a guy's profile name? Does wit get your attention? Something more serious?

How much effort did you put into your own profile name? Is it a real reflection of who you are as a person?

I got tired of creating clever screen names over the years. So mine here is just my first name with an 'x' on each side. Really boring and unimaginative. icon_lol.gif

If somebody has college, jock, hot, sexy, cute, masc, bro, or a random number at the end I usually disregard them as they are probably total idiots.
Guys with screennames that are original enough that I haven't seen it before get a creativity bonus.

Mine is how my first name would be pronounced in japanese.

Names and pictures were chosen for a reason, and it's interesting trying to guess what the guy was trying to convey when he chose to present himself that way.

My eyes roll a little bit when a name ends in "-4u". No offense intended to people with those names, but they remind me of those fake adult chat popups you get.

Mine is based off of a old Team Fortress Classic SN I had way back in the early Pleistocene Era of online video gaming. The name was chosen for me by a particular member of my gaming clan and is partly ironic, and partly totally unrelated to gaming.

The "Trigger" portion of it has less to do with my average at best twitch skills as it does with a certain anatomical feature of mine which was likened by a gay gaming buddy to that of a horse*. icon_redface.gif

*1950s TV trivia: Trigger was the name of Roy Rogers's stallion.

You can't always judge a book.. I had a really honest and beautiful back and forth message discussion with a guy whose profile pic was an ass shot and had a screenname that said he hates protected sex. I was never going to meet him, but you have to remember that there are real, breathing human beings behind these profiles. Some of them may seem gross, but if you peel back a few layers, they might surpise you or teach you something.

I thought of my username while listening to a Diana Ross album (Silk Electric) and a wordplay on the brand General Electric. Eh.

I think -4u is cheesy too. Or anything in all caps or mispelled.

To be honest, I don't even look at profile names on here. Some do stick in my memory, mostly because of the complete drivel they write, but by and large I just remember guys from their profile picture.

Names don't really matter, it's more about the substance in any messages I get.

I liked Pokemon back in the day, so just shortened it to Poke and used that as my name.

    @Anduru: I wonder why icon_cool.gif

My screenname is actually incorrect Japanese... shirokuro is correct, but I liked kuroshiro better icon_biggrin.gif (it's better than 'deackychu')

Mm, no I have to disagree based on the fact that Japanese don't have l's. Try again?

Some guys think that it is because of the word "balls" like I am a fanatic of teabagging. icon_rolleyes.gif

But it is because I generally like sports, and most of them consists of balls. And I changed it to "junkie" with an "i-e" because at the time I was a fan of rnbjunkie from the Damita Jo album.

There was an "arts council", and since I'm a creative/expressive person and did a lot of art stuff when I was younger I went to join in Grade 9, and in my first meeting I sat beside these two girls (turned out they were a lesbian couple) and one of them was like "You should be called Poke." and I was like "oh... okay."
About half the school called me Poke after that.
