In my state, Virginia, a repeal over the mandate of the HPV vaccine was presented by a Republican and has quickly made its way through committee. Thank God that there is at least 1 Republican with medical knowledge who has some common sense and disagrees with the party line.

This vaccine, which has been shown to be safe, saves lives, preventing both morbidity and mortality from the most serious strains of the HPV virus. However, those whose goals are most likely based off of religious and moral lines (as is argued by one of the major proponents for the vaccine's mandate), think they know better..

This whole vaccine scare tactic is getting sickening and dangerous.

Aside from the religious and moral lines there is a third evil..
...in a system where healthcare is a huge money machine and charges what the market will bear and there are shareholders and people wanting to get rich, a vaccine reduces profits from cancer treatments etc.

This effort based on ignorance is yet another result of Christian Fundi Bible thumpers.

Don't discount the strong possibility that this comes from a Fundi belief that HPV is god's punishment brought down on the 'queers' by god himself, these fanatics see government aiding 'queers' by the vaccine as interference in gods cleansing the earth of these offenders.

If you think such an ideology sounds too crazy to be true, just visit the rural areas of Virginia where I live and you'll be amazed at how many people believe this kind of foolishness.

Yet another example of the results of mixing religious superstitions with government legislation. Like oil and water, they do not mix well, the outcome is always a mess.

That's what I'm hinting at when I mention the moral preaching...A lot of conservatives believe that the HPV vaccination (as well as education about safe sex practices) promotes promiscuity.
