Going Bareback

A few friends and I have recently decided to take the Bareback 30 day challenge.
We do know, though, how hard it will and want to take extra precaution.
Are there any Barebackers out there? Is there any advice you can give me with what kind of horse initially to help me adjust to the ride?
What kind of products I should invest in (such as chaps)?

Any type of advice regarding going raw riding--bareback--would be great!

Why does it not surprise me that this was a post about horseback riding?

I have friends that Bareback all the time when riding. I always like to have something between me and the Stud. It can get really bouncy as much fun as that is, you can really get damaged that way. Sure there is some prep work and some clean up after, but the rub down afterwards is great fun for you and the big guy.

HAVE FUN GUYS

Hehehe. Check this out--I copied it from ultimatehorsesite dot com:

"Once you have ridden your equine friend bareback, you will seldom want to use a saddle again. I believe that bareback is the best way to start a beginning rider out. When riding bareback, it is just you and the horse, nothing to support you or to get in your way.

The best way to start out is with a gentle smooth gaited horse being lunged by a responsible trainer. You should start out at a slow walk and remain at that gate until they feel comfortable moving faster. You should be sitting up strait, heels down, eyes forward. Your muscles should be in use, but they should be relaxed. Concentrate on the rhythm of the horse's gait and should be move with the horse. This will keep your body from tensing up. It is a difficult concept to explain as it is something that must be felt by the rider, but with time and practice it is something that can be easily achieved. Next, try some of the following fun exercises to help keep the your body in proper balanced position:

Stick both arms out, one to each side like birds wings. This will prevent the you from slouching and grabbing the horse's mane or leaning on the horse's neck. Flap your arms like a bird's wings, make circles both forward and backward, and swing your arms from side to side.

Next proceed into the trot, and apply all the same exercises at that speed, and when you become comfortable with that, you can proceed to the canter and begin the exercises all over again at that speed."

Just about laughed myself into hysteria with the mental pictures of this... Anyway have fun swimbikerun, and be safe!!!

I learned how to ride bareback and found it really odd to ride with a saddle. It is a great experience, as you really get to feel the horse.

When horses grow stirrups, maybe I'll consider it. Maybe that can be genetically engineered. Just kidding, that would be gross and cruel wouldn't it?

Riding bareback sounds to me like a surefire way to get bruised testicles. If you ever want to have kids you may want to hold off.
