In the "Gay" culture, at what year does one become "old"?

I just read a thread about some young dude being sought after by older dudes.

As I grow older so do the objects of my affection. I don't feel old and superficially I'm attracted to a guy until I see that he's younger than 35.

I don't think I have much in common with guys younger than that.

    Am I considered old now?!?icon_eek.gif

At least in Dallas one is considered 'old' after the age of 29. Just my experience.

    30. It's the inexplicable cutoff for "old" it seems.

Which boggled my mind. I've never been seriously attracted to anyone under 28.

Don't let others define your age or your attraction. Do that yourself. You are only as old as you think and feel you are.

    I see age as irrelavent....

Maturity means so much more than the number of years on this earth.

^^^^ This ^^^ Obviously, younger guys will think the older ones are "old" -- until, of course, they reach that age and come to realize it's not "old"...just older...which is just one of the morsels of wisdom that comes with age.

Having a great time and don't ever think about the "chronological" old..
as stated in years. I think it's all in your mind... what an unnecessary
    limitation...

I don't know when I became old, but I am glad I am. I no longer think I know it all and that my shit don't stink.

If you're trying to go by the playbook alone, 30 seems to be when old starts for most. I'm old, thankfully don't look it so much. Lucky bastard... hey that should be my handle!? ...Anyways, old for me has always been 45, until I turned 30. Now, I see 50-55 as old for me, since my perspective has changed. However, my expectations for the guys goes up with the age. Old dirty bastards... who am I kidding, sometimes I like [intelligent, polite, sexy, horny, healthy, wise, and kind] older men!

I'd consider the OP middle aged.

    For me

    Young: 18-35
    Middle aged: 36-60
    Old: 61 onward.

What's wrong with being old anyway?

They only want you when you're seventeen. When you're twenty one , you're no fun!

Here I would say 30 starts the slide. But at 35 you are considered old. At 45 you are almost invisible unless you are striking looking. After 50 you dont exist.

isn't after thirty the time where you've gotten out of your gay puberty?

i don't think thirty is old by any standard, unless of course the guy just let himself go.

30 seems to be the cutoff age for "old" - and yet somehow everyone seems to survive.

I've always thought that older guys were hotter

It's true. I find Dallas to be reprehensible in many many ways. I used to spend the night in Dallas when passing through on road trips, but the gay men there are so pretentious I just stay on the interstate and sleep over in a small town. It's my least favorite city in the United States.

From posts around here, it is somewhere in the late twenties. I prefer to look at these posts not as people stating an age of the dividing point between young and old, but rather as stating their own perception of the point where they are insecure in their own eyes. I work with people in their 70's, 80's and 90's who are active, vital, intellectually lively and really not old in the sense this board looks at age.

So next time this comes up try asking yourself not when you are old, but when you are insecure about yourself.
