"GLITTER BOMBING" -- Lame Gays Making Us ALL Look Bad
CuriousJockAZ Posts: 14305

I'm sure I'll get glitter bombed myself for this thread, but I don't care. Surely I am not the only one here who cringes at the eye-roll-inducing gay activists out there who somehow think that glitter bombing politicians (Mitt Romney being the latest today) is somehow a good idea, while making us ALL look bad in the process.

http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/dpp/news/mitt-romney-glitter-mn-feb-1-2012

I'm just embarrassed for us all every time I see this juvenile and obnoxious display. It doesn't help anything, it only plays into stereotypes and is more a nuisance than anything else. STOP THE INSANITY!

I'm by no means a Romney fan (nor a fan of any particular politician these days), but I do think these glitter bombings are pretty dumb and tasteless. I'm not sure it's the way to go about addressing issues that concern you and to attempt to make a point.

I agree....It doesn't really matter if you support the politician or not, or if you don't like their view on an issue...it's just an obnoxious tactic that reflects badly and, in my opinion, does more harm than good towards building a bridge to equality.

Since they don't speak for all of us, they don't make us look bad. But they sure make themselves look stupid.

True -- they certainly don't speak for me -- but, sadly, there are so many people who see this sort of thing played out on the internet and on TV that gives them a bad representation of the gay community.

Kind of like how when we have dips who vote for politicians who are against gay equality makes all gay men look like self hating ? Oh no wait, it just makes those who vote for them look like that. Just what I thought.

I'm sure it's infinitely less interesting to you then your tales of being a "power bottom", but the fact is you should care about it. When the gay community is fighting to be heard and get equal rights, it doesn't help that members are out there being obnoxious and going about making a difference the entirely wrong way. This is a one step forward / two steps back type of approach that simply isn't helping matters at all. Yeah, yeah, I know, you're going to argue that gay republicans don't help matters either by voting for GOP candidates, however those GOP candidates aren't going to be won over by glitter bombing idiots.

How exactly does this make ALL of us look bad?

So you have some politicians that want to treat gay people like second class citizens or, at the least, are willing to use gay people as pawns. Some activists use it symbolically to say that we're not all going to roll over and take it.

Lol since when have you even been concerned with taking a step forward? Seriously, glitter bombs make gay people look bad like PETA makes straight people look bad. It doesn't. It just makes the person who threw the glitter bomb look bad and you look stupid for starting a thread about it.

There is nothing wrong with activism -- IF directed smartly and with a little finesse. Running up to a politician ranting like an idiot and pummeling them with rainbow glitter is hardly a smart approach...harmless as it may be....it still seems juvenile and ineffective towards achieving the greater goal. I'd like to believe we can do better than than.

LOL! Or maybe its some grandpa who still doesnt really understand the law enough to know that one issue, one HUGE issue, covers a huge wide array of inequalities and discrimination that is legalized within the federal government against himself. Fact of the matter is I will pay any number of dollars in taxes to get the government to recognize the community that I make with my future partner. Again, just because no one will ever want to marry an old stump like you doesnt mean that you should cast aside that one issue.

Because they are limp wristed sissy liberal gays who are actually out there doing something instead of rolling over and taking it from the GOP. They make all the manly conservagays look bad!

Congrats, your stupid thread is the least stupid of the inane threads started here.

News flash, it is still stupid.

Romney should be glitter bombed. He has promised to enact discrimination against gays in the Consution (Federal Marriage Amendment). He made donations to anti-gay groups. He hates the r and working class also, and worships corporate greed, like most Republicans.

And I am not a one-issue voter, I am progressive in all respects.

The only ones making us look bad are the self-hating Republican idiots that like to troll this forum.

A gay Republican is complaining about people doing things that set our rights back?

This thread wins the Alanis Morissette Isn't It Ironic Award.

To the OP: will you please change the le of this thread?
Since this topic is about making people look bad and all. Lame refers to people (or animals) with a physical disability, but you chose to use it as a derogatory term for someone whose political beliefs differ from your own. It's offensive and makes you look childish.
