Fayetteville, West Virginia is still the nexus for the world's largest queer climbing convention, and this one is kind of intimidating me because there are already 40 people registered and it's still six months away.

Based on the registrations so far, it looks like we'll have people climbing a huge range of grades, from 5.9 to 5.14, climbing both sport and trad, and coming in from all over the US and Canada.

Also there may be lube wrestling. I was going to can the idea, http://homoclimbtastic.com/2012/02/01/stay-classy-homo-climbtastic/ but there has been a groundswell of support to save it. Time will tell!

Check out http://www.homoclimbtastic.com and click the link for the "2012 Convention" up top for more information. There are eligibility requirements, but those mostly boil down to having the equipment and experience to camp and climb without a guide in a kind-of-sort-of stiff single pitch climbing area. (If you regularly lead climb 5.10 routes outdoors elsewhere, it shouldn't be a problem, people who feel ambivalent about it can call me and I'll tell them more.)

I hope to see some of you there this year! Although the subject line says "gay/bi rock climbers", our trips are open to everyone, I just used the phrase to pitch it to RJ, since it's a site for the gay/bi menfolk. But you'll have lots of people there who are straight, lesbian, trans, etc.

And just to get some attention for the trip, I'll drop in an escandalo photo of me climbing in underwear. Woooo!

http://homoclimbtastic.com/2012-convention/convention-eligibility-requirements/ describes the experience level, but you can contact us/me if you have any questions about it or if you're still unsure or whatever.

Fayetteville WV is a great little town for those who've never been. I think of it as a tiny Asheville. The famous New River gorge runs right by it and the Gauley is nearby as well so the town comes alive during the rafting season. Rock Climbing is one outdoor sport I've not tried and I'm not sure I ever will now that I live on the coast but that trip sounds great. They should combine it with a whitewater paddling trip as well to broaden the appeal.

Awesome, thanks for posting here, guy! (This is one of my favorite sites, their workout programs are so good and have fast results.) It's awesome to see you got the idea to spread the word. Wow, I can't believe you've gotten such a good response in this forum already. I can reply to some of the posters since I'm a climbing blog w. -Aeron

Good idea, friendormate, but they were one step ahead of ya. The groups usually do plan out a rafting trip as a "rest day" between the climbing. I'm gonna try to do some of their world-famous zip lining, too. Not to mention solo climbing over routes on Summersville Lake. If you fall, you don't need a belay, you just land in the water.

Hey beanieman, a couple of the LGBT climbing groups from Cali make it out each year. Make contact with them on the group page http://www.facebook.com/groups/hc.climbers

Love this idea but I don't meet all the requirements. I've only ever done top rope climbing indoors and outdoors with a guide - anyone in the Cleveland OH area want to learn to lead climb together?

I'm still too green to go - sick and new to climbing. Hope to make it next year. Climbers are always a great group to chill out with.

Went out to the Gorge today and there were a lot of climbers out! I watched and it has me itching to learn to climb! So, on my new quest to find some cool people to help me learn, just looks like way too much fun not to get into!
