Okay, so this is kind of related to this post about Macy's: http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/2151956

So I read the original article (linked into the original forum post) and then some of the comments. One comment made me think.
PhulosophyMakes me think, what if all the gays and lesbians stop working, the whole entertainment industry and most elsewhere would come to a standstill or it'll just be REALLY boring. Lgbt's makes the world beautiful and rise property value. Gurl, these bigots got to learn to live among us.

I'm not saying that we should organize a day like that. But it did get me to thinking about what the effects would be. Do you think that it would have as large of an impact as Phulosophy thinks?

I think the idea of leaving the workplace and disrupting the economy is a bad one really. Didnt immigrants try it once?

I wouldnt leave my job to protest. Try a sutler way of saying "Im gay" like bringing your partner to a work related event instead of saying "Im gay, and Im gonna fuck up your business today!"

This reminds me of those periodic e-mails that ask everyone to protest the high gas prices by having everyone in America stop buying gas for a day. That will teach the oil companies a lesson.

Well, the reality is - if we decided to do that - people would either buy extra gas the day before - or they would head the gas station the day after. Nothing was really accomplished.

If something of this magnitude were attempted - there would need to be a clear vision of what it was supposed to accomplish first. -If it's to raise awareness - that's one thing. If it's to hurt an industry financially - well, it would need to be more than a day to have a significant impact...

I think too many people would be afraid they would lose their jobs for there to be a significant population involved.

How about all gays nationwide ask for Monday off and make reservations for all their friends in restaurants, ballrooms and show we need appreciation, and day to show it!

Also, it you really believe that only gay people can do these jobs you are crazy. Straight people are just as capable as us. All we would accomplish is saying "look, we can throw a world class tantrum!"

Yep. I lost my job because I put school before work and asked for a day off to perform in a concert with a world renowned jazz trumpet player. Nope. Apparently that's not a good reason to ask for a day off.

I hope you went for the world-renowned trumpet player. Their fucking loss for firing you. When you're famous you can publicly talk about how they dissed you.

Who was it this trumpet player?

(unrelated side note - I played trumpet in band in jr. high...)

Business comes before personal endeavors. When you make it the opposite, business (aka: income) goes away.

Also lets assume you have kick ass employers who were totally cool with you taking a day off for being gay. Alright, statement made. Do you REALLY think that's going to tell bigots anything? Change their mind in some way? Umm no it really isn't. Also society isn't going to just shut down because gay people didn't show up for work. If anything its going to make them replace you.

Look at it this way, lets say you have a business of your own, gay owned, and we'll even say that the majority of your employees are gay with some straight people here and there. So are you going to shut your business down for a day? What about your straight employees? Do they still get paid? While I am sure they would love the day off as much as anyone else they still have bills to pay.

Sounds like an efficient way to out someone

"Have you seen Matt? ...oh my GOD today's that thing, Matt's gay!"

"...of course he's gay..this is the Kiehl's counter at Bloomingdales...YOU'RE gay...hell you slept with Matt...hell you slept with me".

"Gurl we did NOT hook up!"

"You bitch! We totally did! After the Tar & Feather Ball at Splashlight last Summer".

    "Gurl that was NOT me!"

    "...are you sure?"

    "...no..."

"Wait why aren't we doing the gay day thing...?"

"Gurl I got bills to pay, Trisha just told me they canned Matt's ass"

"Hey have you tried this new night eye rejuvenation cream?"

    "Stop opening non-sample jars!"

Woah, I'm sorry that I came off badly, I don't think it is a good idea; I was just curious as to whether people thought it would have as large of an effect as the one man thinks. Personally I doubt it would do much even if there was 100% participation, I mean there is what, 10% of the population that is gay? And a lot of them are in "hetero-dominated" jobs anyway. But it is an interesting concept for me, just to think about what others think.

I would say you just won my heart, but other people already won it before you, so I'll just say that was really cool. icon_biggrin.gif
