when i was in high school and people would say wrestling was gay i would take BIG offense to it. i would not accept anyone downing my sport. when i was in college and i started to realize who i was, and guys would ask have i ever got a boner in a match, my answer was always no. so my question to you guys is, do you think that most wrestlers are gay? because now when i look back on it, my reason for begining and sticking with the sport was not for the competition. it was for all those naked weigh-ins, long hard matches, and things like that

Dude, any sport is gay if you want it to be! Interesting question though since I was just talking about wrestling with a friend who did it for a workout and a bit of erotic fun. Certainly within the gay community wrestling is gay (haha) and I know some very popular and strong groups in the gay community who organise tournaments, etc. Most of that is just because guys love the sport, and I'm sure many of them get up to whatever else they want on their own.

In high schools and universities, I don't think the boys really think about it much. I guess if they did, they'd realise that constantly groping another guy and sticking their face in crotches was VERY gay. And the outfits....please. Gay. So it's like Katy's song, the wrestlers are gay even though they don't like boys.

dude i agree 100% i played varsity wrestling, football, and track all four years and i some how managed to get my "gay" on lol. i just now started to realize that i was actually gay.

    a couple examples are:

in football you would get a "good game" pat on the ass.icon_eek.gif

in wrestling trying to reverse a move can get a lil touchy feelyicon_wink.gif

in track checking out all the short shorts and how the guys dicks always manage to fall out because they were so short and thin. icon_razz.gif

Well in basketball, you're backing your butt into someone when you're boxing out. icon_smile.gif

I would think every sport has some sort of "gay" angle when you look really hard for it, though you don't have to look quite as hard for it in wrestling (especially "pro" wrestling).

However, when you're playing a sport and trying to win you don't really think about how "gay" your actions are at the moment. So....I don't think most competitive wrestlers are actually gay, but I do think some gay folks later on in life have a stronger interest in wrestling. ;)

I don't think it's "gay" necessarily, but it sure can be, maybe usually is, homoerotic. I think straight guys can get into that as much as out gay men, or teens. Guys straight and gay, can also get into the dominating another guy aspect, proving one's strength, controlling another guy, etc.

Think I'll go wrestle myself for a whileicon_twisted.gif

I've done boxing, kickboxing, Tae-Kwan Do and wrestling, and there is definitely a homoerotic element to it. At least in my mind.

But I can also say when you're sparring with a buddy, you're more concerned about getting smacked around and less concerned about the sterling six-pack abs of your opponent.

There's also the domination thing, which I think is something straight guys are into, as well as gay guys. If you're the strongest, that's always a turn-on.

The straight guys who I've wrestled, armwrestled, had tests of strength with, etc, always seemed pretty excited by the whole thing!

I swam for ever and still have people ask about how I could stand being around all those guys in speedos. Frankly, it was a sport and I was there to compete. I did not look at any of them in an erotic way.

I actually like this one openly gay profession rugby player's quote where he basically says any self respecting man can prevent his sexual attraction from interfering with his competiveness...

that is off the top of my head...but it was something like that....but it rings true!

what i tell people who ask like "how do i not get a boner in a match", because like other people said its my competivness. im more interested in winning the match than "copping a feel" how ever if i am completelt under matched, or if i dominate the whole match, it is hard not to think about other things, because the match is no longer on my mind.

I agree, thinking too much about beating my opponent to get hard, concentrating on other things.

Wow! It's great that you have that concentration. I practice Tae kwon Do so i'm good but when we practice close range fighting... well, I've gotta try EXTRA hard(ha) to keep it down.icon_wink.gif

this is only somewhat related, but when I played HS basketball (or any basketball for that matter), i always wanted to guard the good-looking guy on the other team, not necessarily because i wanted to grind against him while going for the rebound, but more because i wanted to control/dominate/own him. i played much better against good looking guys than ugly ones due to that motivation... not sure what Freud would say about this, but thinking in hindsight about it, its interesting.

i bet i would have felt the same about wrestling. my school didnt have a team though.
