so lets discuss the history and discovery channels and how all one sees on them any more are redneck he-man shows? its tougher in alaska? the logging show? the alaskan king crab fishing show (that is exactly the same thing in every episode, but my parents are addicted)? the several shows where they just blow stuff up? the ICE TRUCKING show? etc- and more of the like are being made- while really educational, awe inspiring, mystery and universe-exploring shows are falling by the wayside. i don't watch much tv but when i do its usually one of those two channels... and i miss the kinda stuff they used to have- the kinda stuff this comical is advertising.

I hear what you're saying. Those and the motorcycle chop shop show and the tattoo parlor shows.

However, Discovery has produced the Planet Earth series, two seasons of Everest: Beyond the Limit, and the "When We Left Earth" miniseries. Credit where credit is due, those are great shows, not of the redneck variety.

P.S. I love that ad also. The cameos are cute and it's a catchy little song.

I watch the Discovery Channel for the show "Mayday" about famous plane crashes and the safety advances that occurred because of what the investigators found.

I watch History Television in Canada, for the show "Dogfight" about famous air-to-air combats. The use of computer animation makes the show incredibly realistic. Really makes me appreciate how difficult being a fighter pilot can be. When you hear about a guy's weight going from 190 lbs. to 1,400 lbs. because of the g forces he is pulling in a dive, it really makes you appreciate the guys courage and skill.

The channel I used to love watching but now can't stand is TLC. It used to stand for "The Learning Channel". Now it is full of really bad reality TV. There was a show I taped in the late 1990's called "The Day The Universe Changed" about advances in human knowledge and how they impacted society. Fascinating stuff, but sadly that sort of programming is hard to find outside of PBS.

muchmorethanmuscle saidSedative, are you American by birth?

Heck no. LOL Born and raised here in the Philippines, in a valley surrounded by mountains and some jungles in a godforsaken island! Somebody fix my spaceship! icon_lol.gif

Yeah, noticed that too. Not that I don't like American Chopper or Mythbusters, but I do miss the nature shows, the archeological shows, the paleontological shows. As it is, I get my fix on that from National Geographic (or at least used to, LOL, back when one company did supply cable TV here, then bankrupted itself and left us to rot in local TV, ugh). Though NGC does get a bit pedantic sometimes and Discovery/History is a bit more sensationalist.

Oh well, I prefer the Nat. Geographic magazines anyway. hehe
