Great show. I think it benefits (and succeeds where others haven't) from showing the lives of the house staff. Hanging out for season two.

Love the series! Been watching since beginning of season 1... I love British period pieces, (Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, et al) especially if they are filmed on actual location, as is this one. I love looking behind the actors/action, and taking in the rooms, and all their decor.... they sure knew how to live back then...

Love this show! Heard that Shirley McLain is going to be in season 3 as Lady Grantham's American mother.

So sad about young William icon_sad.gif

I think this season ia another tour de force indeed- lots of twists and turns- Does anyone know if the Christmas Special will air in this run in the US or are they going to wait till later in the year to run it?

Came across this show unexpectedly, but immediately liked it.

Season 2's great, and the Christmas Special was good too (tied up a lot of loose ends). Wondering where Season 3 is gonna go...

Really enjoyed season 1. Not so crazy about how they have season 2 centered around the war.
The brits love war for some reason.

Best thing on right now for sure. I don't think Lady Mary will marry Matthew. Lavinia came back this last episode. The vile press lord she's engaged to told her that if she betrays him or jilts hm he will use the scandak against her to ruin her. And I identify with the help.

I have been watching it since the beginning and have ordered the DVD of Season 1 & 2 through PBS. I enjoy anything English since I completed my masters degree there as an exchange student. You can also order the series on the Acorn web site although season 2 is not yet for sale as it is on the PBS site. If you like the English programs check out the Acorn web site for other DVD's you might like. Always good to have the DVD's when all of the reruns come on or the fund raising begins.

Season 1 is available on Netflix Instant Play, if that helps.

Love this show, every character is interesting. And Maggie smith always kills it. Had no intention of watching but kept hearing great things from friends. Now I'm one of the people who tell others they have to watch it icon_smile.gif don't want to ruin anything for anyone but the season two finale was great, can't wait for season 3!
Best quote by Maggie smith" what's a weekend?". Lol.

Did anyone catch Saturday Night Live this weekend? They aired a trailer for Downtown Abbey as it would air if Spike-TV was showing it. Hilarious, with a voiceover by Andy Samberg outlining the show. Best part was as he introduced Maggie Smith as "This old lady, who looks like an old chicken. We used to hate her---but then we got high and she's awesome cos she says things like this... [quote from Maggie Smith] See, I don't know what that means but SOMEbody just got burned!"

Who are the three girls, cousins to Matthew? How could a cousin marry a cousin?

Matthew now in the wheelchair was next in line (since Lady Cora had the accidental miscarriage) and P. George disappeared... right?

    Is Thomas gay?

Mary is not really going to marry that evil man, is she?

What is the dreaded secret, did Mary have an illicit tryst with some foreigner?

Sick of TV offered around the holidays, I watched the first repeated episode on public tv, and got so hooked that I watched all of season 1 AND 2 online, including the great holiday episode. I won't spoil any of it--and I'm really looking forward to season 3. And I ALWAYS hated "period/costume dramas!"
    Maggie Smith rocks.

I watch this after Once Upon A Time. The only other show I follow is American Horror Story.

Matthew is a distant cousin to the Three Grantham Girls Mary, Edith and Sybil

Yes Thomas is gay ... he had an affair with an aristocratic playboy last season and very sadly fell for an Officer who was blinded in the war and killed himself just a few episodes ago

Mary had an affair with a Turkish Prince who died in her bed last season
