A new study showed that gay men are most attracted to the most masculine-faced men, while straight guys are attracted to the most feminine-faced women.

Men share their high attractiveness for dimorphic faces, regardless of their orientation.

    It's in the brain, baby

    Dimorphic:

Occurring in two distinct forms with visual differences between genders. In dimorphic bird species, the male birds often have brighter coloration or more distinct markings while females are plainer and more camouflaged. Size can also be a dimorphic characteristic, when one gender is significantly larger or smaller than the other.

So this study actually proves that Gay men are attracted to Men who look like Men while Straight Men are attracted to Women who look like Women.

    That must've required exhaustive research.

Perhaps they can also get to the bottom of the theory that hungry people seek out food.

You obviously weren't paying attention and missed his tell-tale bright coloration and distinct markings...

    the results are not surprising
the fact that people spent the time and money on studying this is very surprising though

I think... the point of this was to support "the idea that male attraction operates differently from female attraction, regardless of sexual orientation".

I think many of you who are taunting the study are overlooking some of their other conclusions that are more interesting...

-Also, the types of male faces that gay men found attractive generally did not mirror the types of faces that straight women found attractive on average.

-Gay men and straight men did not agree on the types of male faces they considered attractive.

-...while lesbians preferred slightly more masculine female faces than straight women or men.

-Glassenberg's work supports the idea that male attraction operates differently from female attraction, regardless of sexual orientation.

That last point there is especially interesting, as most studies involving gay men usually involve the recurring theme of the "feminization" of men. Yet, these results suggest that gay male attraction to men might not have as strong a correlation to psychological "feminization" than previously believed, since gay men and straight women have different preferences for what they find attractive in men.

Edit: I realize that even some of these points may be "obvious" to us gay guys. But our own experiences amount to nothing more than anecdotal evidence until someone does a controlled study like this one.

I have noticed a difference in gay men and straight women in terms of faces they are attracted to. It seems like straight women like the "rough, tough, manly" face, whereas gay men like the softer, gentler face. If that makes sense...

Here I think it's kinda reversed during the early ages. In middle and high school, the really attractive girls go for the super skinny I-can-eat-5-plates-at-a-buffet-but-can't-get-my-bmi-to-a-healthy-range-so-I-can-pull-off-drag-and-wear-chick-pants-all-the-time guys, meanwhile just a few years ago I got chased by the fat chicks who sported a mustache. icon_eek.gif Mustache and vagina do not go well with me. Shit- mustache and penis don't go well with me.

I was just thinking about this point further...

If gay men generally find the most masculine facial features appealing, then what kind of facial features do straight men consider handsome? icon_eek.gificon_question.gificon_question.gif

(Yes, I know, straight men wouldn't find a male face sexually attractive. But straight men who aren't jerking their own ego off can admit when another man is handsome or good-looking.)
