It's remarkable some wonder why businesses leave or don't open up at all - as if the myriad of regulations don't make a difference.

The NYT's Scott James recounts the insane red-tape endured by Juliet Pries, an entrepreneur who decided to open an ice-cream parlour in San Francisco's Cole Valley. She had to pay rent on an empty storefront for over two years while the necessary permits were processed, and tens of thousands of dollars in fees (including the cost of producing a detailed map of nearby businesses, which the city itself seemed not to have). If the story sounds familiar, it's because it was the subject of a notorious Xtranormal-produced Hello City Planner video that used it as an example to lampoon the planning bureaucracy in San Francisco.

Not exactly true. It's Democrats who've been running SF and California for many, many years and brought them to the current state. Also: Obama significantly increased the level of regulation of the US economy, which led to similar and very predictable problems in pretty much every single sector one can think of.

    Correct.

Incorrect. Do you not recall Arnold's two terms as governor?

And Obama has cut by 5% the level of regulation int he US economy, so stop parroting right-wing lies.

    Incorrect.

The Federal Register has continued to grow.

And alas, even "The Terminator" wasn't able to overcome the Democrat-controlled California state legislature.

The size of the Federal Register has nothing to do with local ordinances in California or whether or not this woman could open an ice cream shop.

You're the one prattling on about how Obama (didn't) cut regulations.

He did. Significantly. But that's a separate issue from what is causing this woman difficulties in starting her business.
