so i was sitting with a few friends and we were discussuing how looks are rated. one, a female, said when she looks at guys she sees them as either:

    - cute
    - good looking
    - hot or
    - distinguishingly handsome

i liked those categories so i ask you all, which one would you prefer to be noticed as.

    myself, distinguishingly handsome lol.

Well Bob, not to crash on your thread, but I like to be known for traits you didn't list...

    *Honest and hard working...

    *Friendly & Sincere

    (those I can control)

But I'll play along.. if the 4 you mentioned were thrown out.. I guess:

    *Distinguishingly hot & handsome...

    hows that?

    I'll go for distinguishingly handsome.

To my eye the words bring,
A sight to some may sting,
    Fetters unpinned by mantle sublime,
Wrest from spines a path one must climb,
With brow undimmed, and back unbent,
With poise and grace, and honor unspent.

I don't possess the needed hubris to list myself as hot, but I do have enough self esteem to consider myself cute. Hopefully, with time, I'll develop into a distinguishingly handsome man icon_smile.gif

Well, I've always been called "cute". I was hoping as I aged a bit I'd morph in to a different category for a change...ha. I'd prefer hot or good looking but any are always nice.

Well, you're hot and good-looking. I don't know if it required morphing, but you're there.

Hmmmmm...there are no definitions with those categories. Lord knows how each of us are imagining them in our heads.

I see a lot of distinguishingly handsomes here.

To me "distinguished" conjures up images of older business men with gray at the temples.

"Hot" vs. "Good looking": I guess there must be a distinction here since they are two categories. Is "Hot" a highly sexual "good looking"? Does a "Hot" look mean the beholder is just blown way with sexual lust? What kind of people is that look gonna attract? Sounds like it will attract a lot of people who relate strictly on a sexual basis will be attracted and therefore the "Hot" looking guy will have to sift thru the sexually shallow guys to get to a sincere fellow. Also, the "Hot" guy would have to deal with a lot of "sex object" objectification.

"Good looking" sounds the most grounded and well-rounded. A person of pleasing personal appearance but not someone being pigeoned-holed in a narrower category.

"Cute" carries a less-than-serious stigma with it. With a younger person, less than mature...with an older guy, good looking in a still younger, less mature way.

So, I will go for "good looking." Altho, personally, I dont think I fit in any of those categories. I would say I fit in the category "Not Pug Ugly."
