I'm running this year's Chicago Marathon in October and will be in town for about a week.

Can anyone recommend a good central hotel? I'm looking for something cool but not too expensive as it's really just a place to crash.

    Cheers!

I think the Holiday Inn Express located at 640 N. Wabash Avenue
Chicago, IL 60611, would be your best bet. Its close the Michigan Ave., though heard from friends that the rooms were small, but it was the most economical.

I did stay on the Drake for a conference once, but that is more expensive but what a great hotel...it depends on your budget, but it was close to Michigan Ave., restaurants, and Magnificent Mile and had a great spa that I recalled. You will need it after the Marathon especially the legs man.

Guys, thanks so much for taking to time to give me some info... it's a long while since I was in Chicago so I really appreciate your help.

I will definitely check out the options and, in the meantime, thanks again.

The above url gives a great summary of the hotels and proximity to various locations like the start and finish. The Hilton is the official hotel and is right on Michigan ave across from the Art Institute.

Good luck... I'm doing it again this year myself. Living in Chicago, I'll just be hopping on the L to get to the start!
