    Great news.

I'm disappointed that the RJ right-wingers aren't swinging from the rafters and flinging their shit at other RJ members. First the Prop 8 meltdown, and now this ... probably too much for their little minds to comprehend.

This is excellent news! Congrats to Washington State!

As more states endorse marriage equality and everyone sees that gay people can get married without the sky falling, it will become more and more obviously absurd for anti-gay conservatives to demonize gay marriage as the end of the world. I guess we all have grow up sometime.
Eventually they will have to stfu about it and start addressing our society's real problems -- wouldn't that be something?

"Democrats, accounting for the lion's share of support for the bill, control both legislative bodies in Olympia."

interesting to note for our 'republican cheerleaders' that tout the idea that republicans are for marriage equality...icon_wink.gif

"In the end, two Republicans joined 53 Democrats in voting for the bill in the House, while two Democrats sided with 41 Republicans in opposition."

I've been following it pretty closely. The governor is expected to sign it next week - THEN the fun starts, with NOM and other hate groups pouring big bucks into our state to prevent equality from ending the universe as we know it - in initiative to cancel the law is on the way.

But their allied are doing all they can to scare fair-minded people into refusing to sign the initiative and to vote against it. Some of the front-runners:

"Homosexuals are *ALWAYS* a potential to molest innocent young boys, particularly those who participate in the sporting pastimes. For example, it is well known that homosexuals frequent junior high wrestling matches to watch the young boys in skin-tight sporting suits that leave little to the imagination. This sickness can be overcome through treatment, such as intensive one-on-one therapy combined with electro-shock and pharmaceuticals. But happiness is at the end of the tunnel! Jesus loves you!"

    and:

"You will now be collecting valuable and costly benefits from government, business, and society, which were previously reserved to traditionally married couples. And for contributing what to society? Answer: For the vast majority of you, absolutely nothing. Congratulations, you just joined the legions of sponges and loafers with your hands in the government wallet. Not to worry though, you have plenty of company."

A difficult thing for the gay haters here to accept. They can only hope for a court appeal, or a voter referendum. Funny how they rail against activist judges, until they appeal to the courts themselves. Then what the courts decide is OK, if it favors them. Republican hypocrisy is without limit.

A reasonable expectation would be in order. It has to move from the legislative office to the governor's office. Additionally, a ceremony is in the works for this historic occasion.
