So now he is our friend? He got pushed into gays in the Military because the courts were going that way but his administration was fighting it. He did nothing to help. He has never been a friend to the gay community

This is absolutely correct. Obama got elected promising hope and change - - and offering every group just what they wanted to hear. He was not for gay marriage at all. I've heard his insulting comments about his view "evolving" and that IS NOT what he said while he was running, is it?

What a nice break from what you usually hear from the GOP nowadays on this issue. To those that think Obama has not moved fast enough on gay issues, just remember the forward direction. You have one group that has been pushing for ENDA, hate crimes legislation to include sexual orientation, domestic partner benefits for executive branch employees, repeal of DADT and working towards at least civil unions. You then have another side that actively fights against ENDA, hate crimes legislation to include sexual orientation, against any benefits for gay partners and to make marriage and civil unions constitutionally illegal at both the marriage and state level and to put back in place DADT. This is in addition to pointing at gays as the problem with society, their position on reproductive rights and their new found love for fighting against the use of contraception.

Democrats are hardly perfect on this matter but compared to Republicans they are beaming.

I'm against gay marriage: I'm for gay unions. Is there really equality between heterosexual breeder couples and heterosexual and homosexual non-breeder couples? There's a holy archetype on which the family tree of humanity resides, and that is father, mother, and child.

As U.S. states and foreign countries have allowed gay marriage by judicial decision or by legislature, the sacred uniqueness of the human population archetype is not as well staged as before; and, like in some languages a word can have many meanings, where there is gay marriage, marriage has another denotation.*

Remember the holy archetype of hundreds of thousands of years: man and woman and man, woman, and child.

(If you need a reminder, I offer the Hall of Human Origins at the American Museum of Natural History. http://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/permanent/humanorigins/)

    = = =

    * I'm thinking: traditional marriage, polygamous marriage, mixed-race marriage, common law marriage, marriage of convenience, unconsummated marriage, multiple marriages in one lifetime, man with a family in another city, marriage with adultery, marriage with parenting, marriage without parenting, marriage with parenting where one or more parent or spouse is dysfunctional, arranged marriages, etc.

This is what he said when he ran:
    Barack Obama
"Opposes same-sex marriage, but also opposes a constitutional ban. Says he would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment. As stated on the Obama campaign Web site, he supports full civil unions that "give same-sex couples equal legal rights and privileges as married couples, including the right to assist their loved ones in times of emergency as well as equal health insurance, employment benefits, and property and adoption rights."

    http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/issues/issues.samesexmarriage.html

...and he says his views are evolving, which is superior to Republican candidates signing a NOM pledge which is FOR a constitutional ban.

GOProud is not banned from CPAC because they are gay. They are banned from CPAC because of the way they conducted themselves in the last CPAC --- trying to ram their agenda down everyone's throat and thinking that the "Gay Agenda" was the only agenda that mattered. GOProud could take a lesson from the Log Cabin Republicans. A little finesse goes a long way.

The Washington Republican woman who spoke in the video posted here is a fine example of how the case for gays and gay marriage can, and should, be made to an audience who is largely not gay and thereby some of them are struggling with the idea or on the fence. Minds can (and have been) changed, but it isn't done by railroading -- it's done by heartfelt approaches delivered with finesse.

Curiousjock, you have to understand that by this time I see directly through your spins.

GOProud vs Log Cabin. GOProud was formed because Log Cabin was too focused on gay civil rights.

So tell me, is the Log Cabin Republican Group at CPAC this year with a booth etc?

Correct. A very effective way of changing hearts and minds, and as some others have said, she wasn’t preaching, but speaking from the heart.

What produces the desire results? The behavior of Act Up / Queer Nation or something like this?
