here's the lyrics to Malaika...a nice song

    Malaika, nakupenda Malaika
    Malaika, nakupenda Malaika
    Ningekuoa mali we, ningekuoa dada
Nashindwa na mali sina we, Ningekuoa Malaika
Nashindwa na mali sina we, Ningekuoa Malaika

    Pesa zasumbua roho yangu
    Pesa zasumbua roho yangu
    Nami nifanyeje, kijana mwenzio
Nashindwa na mali sina we Ningekuoa Malaika
Nashindwa na mali sina we Ningekuoa Malaika

    Kidege, hukuwaza kidege
    Kidege, hukuwaza kidege
    Nami nifanyeje, kijana mwenzio
Nashindwa na mali sina, we Ningekuoa Malaika
Nashindwa na mali sina, we Ningekuoa Malaika

    Malaika, nakupenda Malaika
    Malaika, nakupenda Malaika
    Ningekuoa mali we, ningekuoa dada
Nashindwa na mali sina we, Ningekuoa Malaika
Nashindwa na mali sina we, Ningekuoa Malaika

Ok, I am ridiculously shocked in a good way by this. I thought only Africans listened to African music. The beat here gets me moving all the time.

Morey Kante from Guinea. The first African record to ever sell over 1 million copies. It became an unexpected hit when it was remixed into a dance song and made it to #1 in several countries in 1988.

Several links in this thread, specifically songs dealing with Soweto.

As an aside, three of the guys in this thread from Toronto all went hidden shortly after this thread. I was friends with one of them, danforthboytoy, and it was very puzzling.

Speaking of South Africa, don't forget Juluka, the country's first big interracial band, featuring Johnny Clegg, aka the White Zulu.
