    For those of you out there who are single (much like myself), V-Day has been cancelled, if you follow the equation above.

    It's the international way of writing the date.

    In the US, today is 2-14-2012.

    In most, but not all, places outside the US, the date is written as 14-2-2012.

    The US military also writes the date as day-month-year. It has to do with NATO compliance. The US military also uses 24-hour, or "Continental" time, so that 5 PM is 1700 hours.

    As are U.S. legal documents.

    i.e. "This deed, made this 14th day of February, in the year 2012..."

    That's because the US military sort of makes sense, whereas the rest of the US is just awesomely nuts.
