Try to stay around Queens Street, much more safer, and has many things to do. Be very careful at night though, and go to Church Street at night.

its like the safest city ever...don't hurt anybody, make rude remarks, or stare at anyone for too long that you don't know (basic rules) - you'll be fine.

Queen street is okay if u like shopping in obscure stores and drinking coffee, church if u wanna see all the queens, peter/richmond/king if u wanna party with class, college if u wanna party without, bay/bloor if u want boring restaurants, front if u want mainstream restaurants, random streets if u want hip and interesting restaurants, yonge street if u want to feel like ur actually in a large city, bloor if u feel like not being able to afford anything (exception of fcuk, gap and roots), yorkville if u really want to not be able to even afford the ground ur walking on, and the beaches if u wanna venture out of the downtown core.

The good thing is, most places accept the U.S. dollar, so you don't have to convert to Canadian pesos.

I lived in Rochester, NY for 13 years, and went to Toronto about every month. My family has had their SUV robbed in China town. There is some sketchy areas, but most of Toronto is safe. I just said be careful. I never said it was like walk down the street and you'll get shot. Some parts of Rochester is like that.

It's the centre of the Canadian Universe!

    I should go more often.

Ive lived in all the places mentioned except Barrie. Newmarket closes at 9. its very much not gay friendly plus I grew up there.... RUN! Barrie is well.... Dont bother if you havent been to Toronto a million +1 times. As for Jane and Finch I had my first apartment in the area. Ironically its also when I got my firearms license. One did not cause the other. Though it was short lived. Damn you Sky Service for going out of business. I liked free flights. anyways I digress Toronto is all around a good City it has something for everyone. If this is your first time and you want to stay in the down town area there is enough crap to fill your weekend. Pat33 gave some good points. If you feel like doing something just ask somebody where you can do it. most of the people are pretty good and will help you out.

I recommend checking out the St Laurence Market on Saturday morning. peameal bacon sandwich anyone?

When I go to Toronto, I walk up church street and see NO hot guys. Mostly regular people with a couple of average joe gayish guys.

Where are the hotties hiding? I've had better luck creeping on the subway.

Worst advice on this thread, even though it's a neighbourhood that could do with a lot more community spirit, it's not for a tourist and you know that.

That all depends on what you're looking for, when you're going out, and how long you're here mate. Answer those and I'll filter the suggestions for you.

Monday is "Family Day" in Ontario, so it's a long weekend and a lot of people will be out on Sunday probably since they have the day off at the beginning of the week.

You still haven't answered what you're looking to do though. Dancing? Bars? Straight? Gay? Culture? Shopping? Toronto has a lot of things, but you need to specify.
