Apparently the blowback was quite severe! Count ALL the votes!!

    From the Chicago Tribune:

LITTLETON, New Hampshire (Reuters) - Maine's Republican Party will recount votes in the state's Republican caucus following complaints that totals from some towns were not included in state results showing a 194-vote victory for Mitt Romney over Ron Paul.

In addition, Republicans in Maine's sparsely populated Washington County will hold their caucus on Saturday after an earlier attempt was postponed by a snowstorm.

"We have worked diligently to contact town chairmen throughout Maine to reconfirm the results of their individual caucuses," Charlie Webster, chairman of the state party, said in a statement.

Webster had been criticized for announcing Romney as the statewide winner on Saturday before votes from all the caucuses had been counted. Fewer than 6,000 people voted in the poll, which is a so-called "beauty contest" that does not bind national delegates to back a particular candidate at the Republican National Convention in August.

A reversal of the initial findings would be a setback for Romney, a former governor of nearby Massachusetts who has been struggling to keep a grip on his front-runner status for the nomination to face Democratic President Barack Obama in the November 6 general election.

It would be the second reversal of a state's results in the Republican race. Romney was declared the initial winner in Iowa, which kicked off the nominating race, but the final count two weeks later revealed former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum actually had claimed a narrow victory.

Maine had been viewed as the best chance to win a state for Paul, a congressman from Texas whose libertarian views and non-interventionist foreign policy stance puts him outside of the Republican mainstream. But Romney has faced a series of surging rivals, with Santorum now besting him in some national polls.

It is unlikely Paul can make up enough ground to win in Maine, but confusion over the results has intensified interest in those towns that have yet to cast ballots, said Neal Patterson, a Republican state committee member.

"With all the publicity and everything, maybe in Washington County we could have a record turnout," he said

In the 2008 Republican caucuses in Washington County, only 118 votes were cast and it was won by Senator John McCain, who went on to win the Republican nomination but lose to Obama.

Romney easily won the state that year with 2,837 votes, more than the 2,190 he garnered this year.

Caucuses will also take place in three small towns in Kennebec and Hancock County that have yet to vote.

Results from some towns in remote Waldo County were also not tabulated in the results released on Saturday due to a clerical error, nor were the results from the town of Waterville, home to Colby College.

Seems like some are desperate to stop Mitt at any cost; but look what they did to stop Joseph Smith from becoming the first Mormon president.

Do you suggest we just not count votes and effectively nullify the voice of certain voters? There is no saying Mitt won't win after the recount...but it's only fair, no matter what you think, to count the votes of all who participated. In the end, I could care less...Between Ron Paul and Mitt, the battle doesn't matter but so much except to slightly put another chink in Mitt's chances, as it's shaping up to be a Mitt vs Santorum issue...

Nonetheless, I never want to disenfranchise ANYONE! I'm not a supporter of either but I want ALL the votes cast to be counted.

With Mitt Romneycare's poll numbers against President Obama tanking - maybe the Repub establishment no longer see any need to protect him and rig the nomination process to make Mittens the nominee.

And the votes for Waterville ME were not counted either before declaring a "winner" - Waterville is the home of Colby College where Ron Paul made the only campaign appearance of all the contenders. He does well on college campuses. So, stay tuned tomorrow!

Update on recount - Romney now up by 239. They are still counting and awaiting the results from tomorrow. A strong push by Paul supporters to get turnout in Washington County, Maine.

If Obama is the poster child of the Arrogance of Government, what would you call those he helped put him there, and who also want to see him return, and not take the chance to fix an ERROR?

Apparently this initial recount in Maine is leading to press stories that Romney edges out Paul in the "recount"- do the reporters understand what is happening here?

Wouldn't it be nice if Republicans could learn how to count?

Is this Charlie Webster, chairman of the Maine GOP, the biggest idiot or the biggest tool I have ever seen (obviously backing Romney)?!?! Here, from the Bangor Maine Daily News (this statement AFTER all the ruckus and BEFORE Washington County holds caucuses tomorrow!!):

PORTLAND, Maine — The head of the Maine Republican Party says Mitt Romney is still the winner of this month’s GOP presidential caucuses following a recount of the votes.

The party last Saturday announced Romney was the narrow winner over Ron Paul, with a 194-vote winning margin out of 5,585 votes. Rick Santorum came in third and Newt Gingrich in fourth.

The party decided to recount the votes after determining that votes from caucuses in Waterville, Belfast and a number of other towns were left out of the final results, and that the tallies for Paul and Romney were reversed in Portland.

Chairman Charlie Webster said the exact vote count of Maine’s nonbinding straw poll would be released Friday afternoon, ahead of Saturday’s caucuses in East Machias in Washington County.

That's the way its SUPPOSED to be. It's not the way it was in 2000 in Broward County. Ugh! I was a party committeeman AND a poll watcher. it was sooo painful. That's why I'm so enjoying the anguish which the Republican party is going through. May it never end.

Here was the problem Gore created for himself. And I was telling people at that time to do it statewide. While the law allowed Gore to request recounts in certain counties (which he selected, Dade, Broward & Palm Beach) it killed him (as I suspected it would) on a PR level. Later on, Gore and his aides admitted they made a major blunder in not requesting a statewide recount. OR he could have avoided that fiasco altogether by selecting the VP candidate I was 1000% for - Senator Bob Graham of Florida - extremely popular former governor and U.S. Senator at the time. Graham would have easily swung 25,000 or more votes to Gore in Florida. Instead he chose Joe Leiberman! UGH!!!!!

Surely all the votes will be counted because the whole country is watching what the party leader does. The state Party leader already embarassed the whole state over closing out one voting area that was pro Paul, over 3 or 4 inches of snow, everyone saw through that one, so my bet is that it will be open and honest this time with every vote counted, or he'll be removed from office.

There is already an ardent mob ready to do that at the state convention it seems based on reports I have read.

But I want to see the first Mormon President in the White House. Not only will it be progressive, as America once wanted to see all Mormons exterminated. It will also make the forums here so entertaining.

Gore has to be regretting that every day of his life. Or maybe he just hits himself in the head with a hammer to forget.
