The word "partner" grates on me somehow. It makes me want to say "Howdy - - who took my horse?" We don't use it. We just use each our names when talking about each other. Sometimes I might use "s.o." or "my boyfriend" and maybe we need a new word. "Husband" someday when it is legal - will be fine. I know it is just me, but "partner" brings to mind a country & western image, and I'm just not country.

Partnerships are wonderful, hard work, compromise, painful, amazing, horrible, filled with love and annoyance all in one. Worth it tho.

I don't think anyone is truly ever ready for a relationship. I think they adapt to it as I progresses along.

    True that.

The problem is "Husband" sounds so very middle-America, sit-com precious and is usually not legally accurate anyway.

"Boyfriend" is servicable but after a certain stage of life just feels so high school / college-y.

"Significant Other" simply sounds like PC, Publicist-issued babble.

"Partner" sounds rather corporate but at least everyone knows what it means and it covers most of the bases.

I've heard that universe is really big and so your message might get lost. Have you considered putting it out more locally? Craigslist?

As to the term partner, I generally use that or best bud. Husband to me is too hetero. Boyfriend for me is too high school. My parents called each other their partners and their best friends. I'm comfortable with that.

It's not for you to determine how he wants to address his future partner. Why does it matter anyway? It's all just different terminology.... and everyone assigns their OWN meaning to such words, so it may be nauseating to you but to him it's what he's comfortable with. icon_smile.gif

When I am romantically associated with another guy, I don't put a label on him.

It's not about "labeling" him as much as just referring to him in conversation when he is not there. There are dozens of times every day that I refer to something that he said, or some moment we had and very often it is with people that don't really know me or us as a couple.

I've been ready for awhile. I don't think it's a matter of being ready. I think it'll happen when 'it's meant to be' and when you are least expecting it.

(That's enough of general platitudes for today.)

    Doug to Bill,

    "Shall we?"

    Bill to Doug,

    "Well they did ask."

    Doug to Bill,

    "Alrighty then"
