Adult male= 2400 ml water/day, ideally. Most guys don't make it. A kidney stone is a huge motivator, however.

Simple rule of thumb: look at the color of your urine. Clear to very pale yellow is good. The minute it starts to turn definitely yellow, start guzzling.

All you have to do is take a Vitamin B complex pill and your urine will be yellow. How can you tell the difference when you're getting your Vitamin B?

    Because that's a fluro yellow.

Dehydration yellow is darker, brownish or starting to go that way

Sort of: too much water dilutes the blood plasma, and the concentration of electrolytes becomes too low. The condition is called "hyponatremia", and it can be fatal.

Hyponatremia is very, very rare, though, as long as the kidneys are functioning properly.

no, it doesn't flush the salts out so much as dilute them for a short period of time.

Your kidneys are very adapt at keeping salt from passing through the bladder.

Although there is a loose association with urine appearance and urine specific gravity.

Drinking for your urine color is not really that reliable, sorry.

What makes urine "colored" can sometimes have very little to do with concentration.

As with the other posters "B" vitamin example.
