I now have two kids at college in Cambridge, and a lot of business in the Boston area, so I will be traveling there every week or so. I will likely stay in hotels in Cambridge, or with friends. I am completely out of date on (and was never really into) the gay/bi bar or club scene in Cambridge/Boston, but I would be interested to know if there are particularly gay friendly bars, gyms, restaurants in Cambridge or Boston that would be cool for a bi, athletic guy who is looking to meet and hang with guys, but not focused on a hook up. Thanks!

In Cambridge there is Paradise and The Middle East has a gay night on Tuesdays I think. In Boston there is Machine, Fritz, Club Cafe, Guilt (Fridays), Estate (Thursdays), House of Blues (Saturdays), Underbar (Sundays).

Hey thanks for the link. I never know whether you can trust the descriptions on something like this. Do you think this is a pretty good guide?

To be honest, I did for you what I do for myself whenever move, and what I did when I moved to Boston. I just did an interest search. Found the site with the most varied list of gay bars/clubs to go to. You can look up more on each bar via google to get a better idea of which bars to go to. It's never as easy as taking someone's word for it. You like what you like. I like what I like. This is a varied, diverse and extended list. So more for you.
My advice is to just choose the one that is closest or sounds the most interesting to travel to. If you're still uncertain; do an Advanced Profile Search for 10 miles within your area, or however far you're willing to go at this godless hour. Lol. Have fun. Wish I could be in Boston right now myself. Sipping sweet tea on the porch in the South is against my nature >/

Cool, that's what I just started doing...googling to get a sense of how the place presents itself. I am just so far away from the bar scene, and a guy my age can feel pretty much unwelcome or out of place. But I figure I'm pretty easy going and friendly, and can take rejection without taking it personally. icon_razz.gif

I'd say go to Fritz across the river. It's a gay sports bar open every night of the week. I don't know if it'd be anything great on a Tuesday night, but it's definitely laid back.

I don't know how I missed this thread.

There's a Cambridge Men Meet Up Group http://cambridgemen.org/

They do some social events and some sporting events. It's not focused on hook ups.

Fritz is a bar in Boston's South End that is as close to a gay sports bar as you're going to get in Boston.

Since it is Boston/Cambridge, a lot of it is gay friendly, just don't confuse the South End with South Boston.

Friends have also had luck with bidding for hotels on priceline in the Boston/Cambridge area.

hey wide stance, thanks. the cambridge meet up group sounds good, and I'm finding the natives are pretty friendly no matter where i end up, and no matter how "straight" the place is supposed to be. and yep, i've been pretty lucky recently bidding on price line.

lunar, i just checked out fritz on line, and it sounds pretty good.

If you like latinos try Venu on Wednesday night, you'd be in heaven.
