Look, I'm sure your cat was amazing and sweet and cuddly and stuff, but your cat ain't no Whitney Houston, stop trying to ride Whitneys coat tails. Whitney was a diva DIIIIVVVAAAAA.

I lost both of my cats this year. You have my sympathy. It's very hard at first when you keep looking out of habit for your cat and it's not there.

Thanks! big hugs to Doug and Caslon!

My vets put me in contact with a pet bereavement charity who offer support and counselling. It seems OTT but grief is grief and despite "just being a cat" they are a member of the family....

I'm having splodge cremated and burried in the garden.

She was found in winter 1995 as a kitten by our gardener. She was tiny with blue eyes and a piece of tinsel around her neck. She was obviously a Christmas present who had escaped or more likely thrown out. She was a very independent little soul who did things on her terms and her terms only. She loved me to bits: everyone else thought she was a little bitch who was violent and anti-social but to me Splodge was only ever cute and cuddly and showed affection.

She passed so peacefully in my arms on Saturday....all wrapped up in a blanket and, as usual, retained little dignity as her tail was poking out all floofed up like a chimney brush!!icon_razz.gif

I had a bit of a dispute with an Evangelical friend of mine who says animals dont have souls. I tend to disagree. I wouldnt want to go to any sort of "heaven" without my cat or my lat dog. It certainly would not be heaven.

Here's a story often told (I do not know the author), copied/pasted from some website (just insert cat where it says dog). May it bring you some comfort...

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.

He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.

"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up."

The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveller asked.

"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence.

As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"

"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."

"How about my friend here?" the traveller gestured to the dog.

"There should be a bowl by the pump."

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.

The traveller filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.

"What do you call this place?" the traveller asked.

    "This is Heaven," he answered.

"Well, that's confusing," the traveller said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

    If I Should Grow Frail

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain does keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done
for this - the last battle - can't be won.

You will be sad I understand
But don't let grief then stay your hand.
For on this day more than the rest
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.

Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me to the end.
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail it's last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must now be you
Who has to decide this thing to do.
    We've been so close--we two--these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
