I think in the mind of some straight people , that if your a athletic guy, into the whole fitness , gym bod, etc your automatically str8......icon_confused.gif

and if your way too butch, too outdoorsy type of guy, or to masculine , u can't be bisexual or gay in the eyes of the ( gay community )icon_eek.gificon_confused.gif

As a Bisexual guy i can't help it if people have a hard time guessing my sexuality since they got a mental picture of how a gay guy should talk, walk, act.

to make things simple for everyone :

" There are bi guys who are either feminine /masculine, same as a gay guy there are feminine/masculine "

I'm pretty much a Masculine/butch/jock whatever u wanna call it, and most of the time im with the same person who shares the same characteristics. Some guys are Alpha in nature ( agressive/dominant ) who are into other Alphas. While other are into ( the submissive type of guys ) .

But i guess i'm just that guy who is into other Alphas icon_wink.gif

and most of the time 2 Alpha's together.... are never seen as a gay couple/bicouple icon_cool.gif in the eye's of the gay community, or str8 community .

OK, so what I'm really feeling here is this :

If you're happy and secure with your personal status and your relationship status, why the hell do you care what the rest of the planet thinks? People on the outside are always going to have their opinions, and some of those opinions may not agree with your opinions. To which I say "so what" Just live your life and move on!

It depends on where you live.

In the midwest and states were education rates poorly, the gay stereotypes are old fashioned and quite bigoted and shared by the large majority of people.

When you move into the cities (the modern ones like NY, Chi., SF, LA, Atlanta, Boston and not the backwards ones like SLC) and thier suburban neighborhoods, the image is more contemporary.

Most people in NYC, when they see a guy who's really physically fit, they are more likely to think, "Gay" than "straight". Even the late Greg Giraldo (strait comic) said that to be told that you look gay was a compliment. He said that more of the gay men he knew could kick his ass than the straight ones because the gay men were far more fit.

Even as far back as the mid 90's, in "Designing Women" when Mary Jo and Suzanne are looking for hot eligible men at the grocery store, says to Suzanne (Delta Burke) "Oh, hey, how 'bout one of them?" to which Suzanne replies "No, wait, forget it. 2 guys, 1 cart, fresh pasta... figure it out."

I doubt that, especially with the straight people that have many gay friends.

I have a question on what exactly an Alpha male is. You are saying it's about agressiveness/dominance and outward appearance........and then there are submissive guys?

You are making it seem as though "Alpha" male is just another way of saying masculine. Well what about masculine guys who are submissive. What about guys who like to be dominant/agressive sometimes and submissive and affectionate other times? would those be Beta and Gamma males? Really what's with this classification system anyway?

I guess my question is a little off topic. Then again I don't really know what the point of this thread is anyway.

This makes one giggle. It reminds one of days gone by in gay clubs, were even other gays, and even bisexuals were afraid to approach me, and those who did thought it took a lot of balls. Not because I'm straight acting, but I can appear to be straight. As well when I am out and about in gay clubs, I'm not there to play the games, or to pick up, and that confuses people. yes still even at my old age of 50, I am still stocky, have calves to die for, a nice chest and arms.

It all comes down to others perception, that is more often than not incorrect, just like the perception many have of one here. icon_razz.gif

"just like the perception many have of one here."

It's the perception you forced them to have of you by not being yourself on here. Remember your email to us.

If you decided to be yourself on RJ, you'd probably have a very pleasant experience.

From my thoughts in the past 10 years or so I have to disagree with you. As a friend of mine says it "you never see a str8 guy with abs".

    That's hilarious! Love her.

I've been looking for a way to add variety to my ab workout. I guess I have the answer. I may have to stop myself from counting reps out loud though.

The purpose of that message was twofold:

    1. to push the limit of our understanding of how parentheses are used in a narrative.

    2. To posit internet forums as a place to present random sentences and quasi-stream of consciousness snippets as discussion topics

    and TO BLOW YOUR MIND.

In a way I feel that each gay/bi guy, even masculine, still gives away hints to their sexuality. For example, one who is str8 acting will be likely to deny any affection for another man when questioned about it, but that really just hides the insecurity that the guy has with their sexuality. There are also other subtle hints such as long staring, checking other guys out, compliments of other guys' bodies, hanging around only guys, never making moves on girls nor talking about them, showing affection for other guys, the list goes on.

Wouldn't it be easier for you to just print out that last post, put it on your wall and look at it whenever you need reassurance.

So much for Alpha and Beta.

Now how about Delta, Epsilon, Gamma, Kappa and all the rest.

    People are enormously varied.

I got mistaken for het in almost every state I've lived in, before South Carolina. Not so much cause of my built, cause I got a slim twink's build. More cause of my mannerism and walking alone. Somehow, that doesn't cut it here in the South. Everyone is set to whore/slut mode and I guess that enables them to see through to my gay.
It's a bit bothersome, finally being recognized for what I am, and harshly at that, but I'm not about to douche up my and front a better masc just to be told I'm not a fairy cause someone else is a dumbshit.

You're looking into the wrong eyes. Or checking out your reflection in them, I'm not sure which. But regardless, do you need to 'be' anything in particular? I mean other than happy, and proud and honest and focused on your partner and your life, who gives a flying fuck?
Public perception - regardless of the socio/sexual/political zeitgeist of the perceiver - is their issue. Unless you decide to relieve them of the burden and make it yours, really.
