Isn't this what judges are supposed to do? Be politically impartial in order to dispense justice? icon_wink.gif

Not in Republican Land. Judges have only succeeded in dispensing "justice" when their decisions conform with Republican Party policy. When a court decision conflicts with that policy then Republicans declare the judge an "activist." I'm afraid that's the fate that may await this judge, regardless of him having been nominated by the infallible Bush (Presidents don't literally appoint judges; the US Senate must confirm them).

CAN'T WE JUST FUCKING ENJOY IT??????

I agree! Of course, had the judge ruled the other way, they'd all be whining and shouting it from the rooftops how unfair he is, but a judge actually does the fair and right thing and GOD FORBID he should get a sliver of credit for any of it.

Why does this incredible news give me the impression that DOMA could be struck down in less than five years?!

    This is super awesome!

Ted Olson, who just won the appeals case against CA's Prop 8, was solicitor general under Bush. Keep an eye on those former bushies!

I am sure that all the narrow minded, bible thumping screwballs are fuming over this ruling from a Bush appointed federal judge. So much for liberal, activist judges.

For the first time ever, I agree 100% with JPtheBITCH because he is right. This is a victory for all of us. We should be extremely happy but there are some on here that love being negative by finding fault with everything. Oh well, life goes on.

I thought this comment by a reader in response to the ruling was well said:

Here we go. Let's see where this takes us. To a panel of three judges. Then seven. Then to the Supreme Court (I guess since this is a federal law we get to skip the California Supreme Court on this one.)

One by one we keep beating back bigotry for bigotry's sake. And like wack-a-mole people like Santorum keep popping their rodent heads out of the ground.

When will these people learn that bigotry against a minority is both unAmerican and antiChristian...two things they believe protects them from judgement.

Only if President Obama is reelected.

Romney Santorum and Gingrich have all stated their support for amending the Constitution to make gay marriage illegal nationwide.

But with President Obama in the White House we will see even greater progress on gay rights than we have in his first term!
