I am very interested in working out. The reason being is because I always wanted to get in shape - not to say, I am out of shape, but I want to build muscle lean mass to my body.

I have never been to the gym or a weight room.

Little bit about myself: I am 23 years old, 5'8", and roughly 135 lbs. And I have semi-abs, pecs, and biceps.

I would like a more defined body and get my body in shape.

How do I get started? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Being that you are a self-proclaimed neophyte to the gym I think you would benefit most from teaming up with a trainer so he can provide you with information on proper lifting techniques as well as with a workout plan tailored to your specific build (body type) that will allow for maximum muscle growth. Great trainers can also help you develop a diet that will facilitate muscle growth.

As Orthojock pointed out, working with a trainer is the best way to go, if you can afford it.

If you can't, try one of the work out plans on here. The Strong and Lean is a great plan to start with.

Something else to try is checking out the forums and workouts on http://www.bodybuilding.com. They are quite good, and there are tons of really helpful, knowledgeable people there.
