The saddest and stupidest part of this whole Arizona Sheriff scandal thing.

This has been going on for a few days and nobody seems to be able to figure out if the ex-bf has legit papers or not. Even to the point of a full investigation.

Is the US really this sloppy with their paperwork for immigrants? icon_lol.gif

If he were legal, it wouldn't be THAT difficult to figure it out. They have not been able to verify his legal status, which in itself I think gives you the answer.

someone pointed out to me that if Babeu stated the following.

" If you out me your immigration status could be in jeopardy" is not necessarily misuse of power. Its a statement of fact.

Right now he maybe quasi-legal. On a student visa but not a student etc etc.

It would definitely be misuse of power if he aided him in avoiding deportation.

This is what happens when gay couples fight. It's a battle to see who's the biggest and fiercest bitch. So far Babeu's boyfriend is winning. icon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gif

    Winning? He WON!

Babeu's career and political aspirations are done.

True. But Babeu can win this cat fight if the boyfriend actually turns out to be illegal and gets deported. I get the impression that the boyfriend grew up in the states. So getting deported to Mexico won't exactly be like going back home. icon_neutral.gif

I wouldn't count Babeu out just yet. These things can take some unexpected twists and turns, and what can sometimes happen is that the accused actually becomes the appealing underdog if the allegations are proven to be false or overblown. I'm not saying that will happen here, but I would't count Babeu out either.

Sorry to say yeah, you could come here on a work/student/tourist visa and then just not leave when it expires and they got no real method of tracking you. So you'll be in this country until you get in trouble with the law at which point they'll find out

But what has the RNC (Republican National Committee) and the Republican committee that shepherds Congressional candidates through election (I forget their name, as if I would want to know it) had to say about Babeu? Is he still getting money and other support for his campaign?

A sitting Representative, Anthony Weiner, was summarily forced to resign by fellow Democrats for a similar indiscretion. Where is the Republican Party, the party of morals and family values, in all of this? If they've said anything I've missed it, and would appreciate the links.

Is Babeu going to become another Senator David Vitter, where the GOP just looks the other way and ignores it, and hopes the public forgets it? To keep another seat in Congress at all costs, regardless of the blatant hypocrisy regarding their own treasured values?

Umm, yes, our immigration system is broken. A friend of mine's family along with siblings came to the US when I was very young and they are still here. They even got government housing. Any time they'd go back to their home country they'd have the dates falsified through bribery and so they would just keep coming back and forth between countries.

Maybe, maybe not. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Personally, I am giving him the benefit of the doubt until all the facts are known and his innocence or guilt is proven. As of yet, he has not given up his campaign, and I hope he doesn't. It would be a step forward if his sexual orientation does not hold him back in a conservative district. What does disappoint me is that so many here are quick to judge before knowing the truth, and are throwing this gay man under the bus just as readily as others are. If you were smart, you would be rooting him on so that we actually would have another advocate in the GOP if he were to win.

You are delusion. Justice has been served. He will be forced to identify as gay for all eternity. He threw the gay community under the bus and got bit in ass in return.

Oh.. the greatest thing that could happen is if Babeu would stand UP and rail AGAINST the discriminatory practices within the GOP machine. Prove that 'gay' people are 'people' too, not a political football.
But he isn't. He's more worried about his hide being exposed.

But IF he was to do that.. he'd be tossed out of the GOP.... kinda like GOProud and the Log Cabin repubs. Those are "rinos" because that what the GOP wants.
