Many of you know that I have been out for less than a year. Seattle Pride was last weekend, and it was absolutely amazing for me -- very moving and emotional. I would like to hear about other people's experiences the first time they attended.

... well, one of my most memorable experiences with Pride was watching my boss strut his stuff on one of the leather bear floats. I knew he was gonna be there (and yes we both knew each other was gay) but it just amazed me that this same guy dancin' around in a tight leather thong w/ matching vest is the same guy everyone at work fears 'cuz he's such a ball-buster and drill sargeant. Yes he was gettin' cat calls and cheers... but he also had to deal with the jokes and derogatory remarks as well. i really gained a lot of respect for him that day.

... i know... prolly ain't much, but it definitely taught me that all guys (and gals) that march in the parade deserve sooooo much respect and admiration from us 'cuz they're the ones representing us and they're the ones taking all the hits 'n insults we don't have the courage to take.

My first pride experience was in Chicago in 2003. I had just come out to myself three years back, so it was SO incredible to be surrounded by people just like me -- and what's this? There's a gay neighborhood called Boystown? I was so amazed. icon_biggrin.gif

I remember leaving with so much pride and confidence and comfort. It was such a wonderful feeling to have at that time in my life.

I also left with the memory of a drag queen with the Sears Tower for a hat...
