A lot of horror movies now are just based off mutilation and torture.

as a horror movie fanatic, I'm quite dissapointed in modern selection.

what happened to slumber party massacres and kids at camp being slaughtered.

    now we have...human centipede???? come-on,.

Like there isn't enough gratuitous violence in the real world, without making it up for entertainment. No thanks.

these movies aren't even close to being scary. disturbing? yes. but the horror that i like regarding serial killers is more along the lines of Silence of the Lambs. Horror movies have taken a turn for the worse in the last 15 years.

Yeah, a psychologist friend of mine said the entire premise of Hostel was flawed - most serial killers would not be able to keep themselves to just killing once a month in a heavily structured kind of way like in Hostel

    Yep. I agree.

I liked Hostel as a thriller. But it wasn't a true horror movie like the slumber party massacres or massacres at Camp Crystal Lake.

I actually enjoyed Hostel 2 a lot more than the first.

The gore factor was a lot higher and I thought the female leads were much better than the males in the first one.

It did feel like a remake of Hostel Part One though and was more uncomfortable than scary to watch.

I made it through Hostel 1, but when the over-the-pit, bloodletting, slashing scene came on in Hostel 2, off went the TV. NO thank you! icon_eek.gif

gorror isn't the same as horror. making someone cringe isn't the same thing as scaring them. it's not to say you can't gorror... but you have to be more than just shock value. suspiria did it very well.

As far as I remember Suspiria wasn't really a gore heavy film, I think Tenebre was more gory but that came off as pure schlock.

I miss the 'good' Argento icon_cry.gif

Very true, and they're so predictable. Once you've seen one, you've seen them all.
