Rick Santorum bashes Obama for encouraging young people to strive for a college education: "What a snob"

Rick Santorum took a swipe at the president's higher education push on Saturday.

"President Obama once said he wants everybody in America to go to college," Santorum said. "What a snob.”

The GOP candidate was speaking to a crowd of Tea Party activists in Troy, Michigan.

“Not all folks are gifted in the same way,” he explained. “Some people have incredible gifts with their hands...there are good decent men and women who go out and work hard every day and put their skills to test that aren’t taught by some liberal college professor trying to indoctrinate them. Oh, I understand why he wants you to go to college. He wants to remake you in his image. I want to create jobs so people can remake their children into their image, not his."

His comments echoed remarks he made on Friday, calling colleges "indoctrination mills."

As the Washington Post points out, Santorum's criticisms are curious considering his three advanced degrees. He holds a Bachelor's, a law degree and an M.B.A.

Obama is currently pushing a plan to make college more accessible by reforming federal student aid and providing incentives for colleges to keep their tuitions under control. He first introduced the initiative in his State of the Union speech.

Santorum wants others to live according to his beliefs while he, himself, flouts them. This is just another example.

At the risk of making fun of myself (which I often get some perverse pleasure doing), a personal anecdote:

I couldn't ride a bicycle in the SMART Ride charity one year, so I decided to be one of the cheerleaders, which we always have. I wore a yellow pom-pom wig to match my hand pom-poms, that completely covered my face.

As my partner drove into the first pit stop in a recovery vehicle, he saw me waving like crazy and said to his co-driver: "Who's that fucking idiot with the yellow hair?"

To which the other guy (a good friend of ours) answered: "That's YOUR fucking idiot." Years later we still laugh whenever we retell that story, and we'll also work "That's YOUR fucking idiot" into some other topic if we can.

Well, Reublicans, accept that Santorum is YOUR fucking idiot. And while I could at least remove my idiotic wig at the end of the day, I'm afraid your Santorum's idiocy is permanently attached. icon_razz.gif

ALL Republicans do not have to support ANY candidate within the GOP if they vehemently disagree with any of their views. I personally would not support Rick Santorum for ANYTHING --- EVER!

I don't have the need to continually express a dislike of Santorum to placate the liberals, but your messages and continual championing him especially the continual showing of his photos, also contribute to a crappy atmosphere here. I agree with his foreign policy positions, although they are not his uniquely. Both Romney and Gingrich have similar positions. If you really support him as you continually emphasize, why not be specific and discuss his social policies, whether they would influence how he governs, and whether he would or would not torpedo the chances to be rid of Obama.

I'm not a forum moderator, and you can continue to do what you please, but I can also express my opinions.

    freedomisntfree,

Please don't feel pressured into modifying your behavior on this site to conform to false etiquette of some members on this site. While they may acknowledge that their position is not of a forum moderator, they have tried, not unnoticed, to mimic the duties of one, including the attempt to control the narrative of RealJock.

If you support Santorum, that is your business. And however you express your support is also your business. Just as no one needs to express their dislike of Santorum to allegedly placate the liberals, you don't need to provide specifics in regards to your support for Santorum to placate anyone. Thanks to you the hypocrisy of some members have been exposed.

And no, this is not sarcasm. I support what you're doing. You come across as more honest and sincere than many of those here who share similar conservative positions.

So then why are you telling Freedom what to do?

Why are you Repubs so intolerant of people freely expressing their opinions?

Why do you hate freedom of expression?

I agree with Socal on this, who is expressing his opinion about a troll.

    -Doug

Socal is also doing what a few others on the liberal side here say conservatives never do, disagree with each other.

I'm surprised that some liberal thinkers here find someone to be OK who claimed he voted yes on Prop 8 and would again (in his last incarnation on RJ) and who makes veiled inferred threats to another RJ member by mentioning the IRS when that RJ member gets to him.

    Yuck.

Exactly Doug. You have often pointed out that conservatives generally do not disagree with each other on the forums, and I think the same goes for liberals, but I do recall you would on occasion express such points. The reaction of those other two is not surprising, because they are more inclined for gotchas than any honest discussion. And my comment to the other guy was to not stifle his opinions, but make them more substantive rather than being needlessly inflammatory. And it was quite humorous how they did exactly what they criticized me for doing.

    WRONG.
I didn't tell you what to do in my comment.
I asked you why YOU were telling someone else what to do.

I support everyone's right to freely post their opinions.
    Including you.
But that's not what you did.
You gave Freedom instructions on how he should post comments on RJ.
As if you were the Forum moderator.

As if you were the head of the Pro-Repub Propaganda Department on RJ!

Everyone has an EQUAL right to freedom of speech here.

The idea that I agree with Freedoms' opinions is frankly ridiculous - given the fact that our views are polar opposites in almost ever way.

You'll note as well that I didn't tell Socal to "go to hell".
As is most often the case it's the RJ Repub who make it personal.

FYI - editing out folks like Freedom and Santorum gives a dishonest and inaccurate representation of the Repub party.

Freedom and Santorum represent the ideological view of the majority of Repubs.

    They ARE the Repub party.

If you want to side with the pro-Repub spinners like Socal who would like to present a false DISHONEST view of the Repubs - that's your choice.
