So I just so the movie last night with a bunch of friends and it was pretty good action and story wise. But the acting sucked (but they were actual Navy Seals and not actors). I do recommend everyone still go see the movie.

If you saw the movie let me know what you thought.

But also while we were eatting dinner we discussed the topic of the Navy trying to diversify the Special Forces to be able to meet the growing demographics but really to be able to infiltrate other countries better. I'm curiouse about your opinion on that as well.

Here's the article you can read about it.

This is a very sad film. One would think real navy seals would have better things to do than make a movie.

Way too much publicity for special operations but if it helps them in recuritment or reputation good for them.

Although, Special Forces = Green Berets and belong to the US Army.

A recruiting vehicle endorsed and blessed by the US NAVY.

From WIKI : "For the Navy, the film is an initiative to recruit SEALs."

As many as there are, a platoon was able to be spared. Plus it wasn't like they did the movie hollywood style. They shot almost all of it on scene at training facilities with live rounds and used actual ships and boats. I think there's always time to do something positive to get the support of the country

You think having those Navy Seals go and do something useful to society would be recruiting enough...instead they have to use fantasy to trick people in. Kudos Navy, Kudos.

How is making a movie positive? A movie is a fantasy, entertainment, its not reality. The idea of using a film to recruit to the navy is ludicrous and foolish. Why cant they go end human slave trafficking or some shit like that?

Every service branch has a "Special Service" for the army it is the green berets as well as rangers and the delta force.

The Navy has Navy Seals (equilvalent to their green berets which stands for SEa Air Land) as well as the EOD community (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) SWC and the Marines Special Operations Regiment.

I don't know what the Air Force has but every main branch has a special forces community.

The reason they can't go end human slave trafficking is the same reason you cant't, it's to big of a problem to tackle and they don't have the resources. Something like that would take more then just their area of expertise it would take cooperation from pretty much everyone else in the world.

Whether or not the movie is fantasy does not mean it can't plant the idea of "maybe I can do that" or "I wonder if I can do that" into some young hopefulls mind and get the ball rolling. It is a recruitment trick.

The movie is based on actual events that actually occur on the regular basis in the military. I'm sorry you're being a bit ignorant to its realities.

Exactly dude, it is a trick, not reality. They arent showing what it is really like to be in the Navy Seals but a fantasy to feed the male ego of "gee, this movie did it so maybe I can too."

Its a sales tactic, its what salesmen do, I would know I am one. It doesnt make it right and there is no reason to glorify the Navy using movies to recruit people into the division.

Call me ignorant, its ok, I really dont care what an idiot like you thinks.

Well you may be right. So go see the movie, then go read the medal citations and see if stuff like that doesn't happen. Go read the books that service men and women write themselves and see if that stuff is unrealistic.

And we both believe it was used as a recruitment trick. But what bothers me isn't that they are trying to recruit people with a movie. What bothers me is that they have to go to such great lenghths to get people even interested enough to want to be apart of the military. The fact of the matter is our military is such a small percent of our nations population (less then 1% I believe) and a certain type of person is needed. And a way to draw those people out is to peek their interest.

If anything I'd say the movie Battleship will be more of a recruiting video than Act of Valor seeing how that is a big budget summer block buster and this was a low budget B film at best.

Besides, anyone who is actually in the military knows that all branches are over stocked with personnel in addition to the fact the military is downsizing. There is no need to recruit.

I just hope this isn't Hollywood trying to test loosely-scripted reality cinema and transcend the genre from the small screen to big. This wasn't a documentary, nor was it really produced as a film...anyways I'm picketing the cinema if "Kardashians: The Movie" is ever released...if only for the children of the world.

the big 'we want to be a SEALs' thing already happened when they killed osama! and guess what...95% of them either didnt make it into the program or failed the program...and guess what they became? undesignated seaman/airman, cullinary specialists or corpsman or whatever rate wasnt completely locked the fuck out. of the ones that became corpsman...half of those failed BUDS on the corpsman side (and if they did pass half of those got their dive warfare pin or something and that was the end of the road). so now they wipe the asses of legless Marines and play video games which is nothing to be ashamed of. this is not an opinion, this is a fact. the Navy is NOT trying to recruit SEALs. that is absurd. IF they are trying to recruit, its for sailors because the more people that want to be SEALs but realize you dont just walk into a recruiters office and then a few days later jump out of helicopter strapped with weapons bigger than your little brother are more likely to be like..fuck it and then just join the Navy. ive seen it with my own eyes working in a recruiters office. to even get into the S/W program you have to spend a year in training before going to boot camp. WHY DOES EVERYONE HAVE AN OPINION ON THINGS THEY DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT?!?!
honestly though i think they just wanted to make a badass movie. i havent seen it yet cuz i live in a military town and its sold out this entire week for like a month.
also....listening to people talk shit about anyone in the military not having anything better to do with their time while they are posting on realjock messageboards is LOL LOL LOL!!!

Funny, its the same message board you are posting on. Either way the movie is a shit idea. I dont want to see Navy SEALS on the fucking screen, I want them to go be Navy SEALS.
