http://abcnews.go.com/US/chardon-high-school-shooting-gunman-identified-tj-lane/story?id=15799815#.T0zLSvEgfgFA second victim of the teenage gunman who opened fire at Chardon High School in Ohio has died.

Russell King, Jr., 17, was pronounced brain dead at 12:42 a.m. at Ohio's MetroHealth Medical Center, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.

The gunman who opened fire killing two and wounding three others has been identified as T.J. Lane, according to a fellow student and witness, and ABC News' Cleveland affiliate WEWS.

His alleged fusillade of bullets left "friends laying all over the place" in puddles of blood, one student told ABC News.

Nate Mueller, a junior at the school, was having breakfast with three friends when he heard a loud pop like a firecracker about 7:45 a.m., he told ABC News.

A friend yelled, "Duck!" and Mueller told ABC News he turned to see fellow student Lane standing by his table. Mueller said Lane took a second shot and saw a friend get hit.

"He was over the table in a pool of blood," Mueller said, and another pal "was on the floor in a puddle of blood next to him."

A third friend "had not been hit yet as I jumped over him," Mueller said.

Mueller got on the floor and was trying to crawl away when a shot rang out and he felt a bullet graze his ear. He was not badly injured, he said, with just a small red mark left on his ear.

"It was terror. Everything had just gone tunnel vision, like, I need to get out of here," Mueller said. "You see glances of your friends laying all over the place. There's blood, there's people screaming, everybody's just running in different directions and you're just trying to get out. That's all you can do, get out of the school and not look back even though your friends are back there."

Two students were taken by ambulance to Hillcrest Hospital and three were taken by helicopter to MetroHealth Hospital, according to WEWS

A student identified by MetroHealth Hospital as Daniel Parmertor died from the wounds Monday.

Never a good time to inject race into a murder...

TrojanAthlete baits a thread with witty racist comment:...Guns don't kill people, angry white men do.

Actually, it's the laws of physics that are the killer.

    p=mv

Oh, and way to play the race card in a tragic incident. ;)

I am actually offended that the OP would even bring race into this. Life is life. Any murder is tragic--regardless of the race of the one who did it, regardless of the race of the victims. Please do us all a favor and change your attitude because it is attitudes that like that continue to cause, maintain and increase strained race relations in his country. While I respect free speech, it doesn't necessarily mean you have subject it to the rest of us who DON'T think like that.

Meanwhile, the bigger more important issue: our kids.

What really pains me about this is that in the one of places where our kids should be the safest, they aren't. The last thing I should be doing is having a sit down with my son to talk about things like this. The last thing I should be doing is telling my son, "Okay, we need to talk about what happens if something bad happens at school." The reality that I have to do that speaks to a sad state of affairs for this country. I don't really give a shit how low or how high my taxes are--rather, now, I'm more concerned that our kids are getting to and from school safely everyday.

    Unreal...

Very sad indeed. I've heard some background about the shooter, but I'm sure much is speculation at this point.

    Wait wait wait...

Are you seriously condoning this act of violence? Yes, bullying is wrong but it is not an excuse for murder.

Bullying-intervention programs aren't just good for stemming suicides, as Teh Media would have us believe. They're good for reducing the risk of homicides, too.

And, yes: OP, "You wrong for dat!" We've got to do better with our young people, no matter what they looked like coming out of the womb.

Are you kidding me... That is sick... First of all they have no idea yet if this had anything to do with bullying. Second of all... They were kids and no one deserves to die like that. I can't believe anyone would say something like that.

I live out in the area where this happened. When I was in school I went to Chardon High School all the time for sports and other events. I know many people who this has affected in such a big way. When my fire department pager went off and I heard them make the call for Chardon Fire dept go on standby my heart sank.

No... In Ohio you must be 21 years of age or older and complete a CCW course in order to to carry a concealed weapon.

This is quite a shame and I'm a little offended that race would be brought up in this tragic incident. Also just because someone was a bullier doesn't mean they need to die so that too should be ejected.

Just get rid of guns, I know people like them and they want them and look what the fuck happens. Not eveyone is responsible and clearly access can't be restricted to those who are.
When was the last time the UK had a school shooting? Actually I have an answer for that; Dumblane 1996. In the US (pardon the sweeping generalisation) it’s a quiet week for the news if there isn’t one, Ohio was the second one this month.

To an extent I agree with Tereseus, bully someone enough what did they think was going to happen? I can't condone violence and murder but considering the US state they live in, considering what bullies do to people, did they think they can torment souls without consequence. Victims can snap.
Can bullies really be that callous or are they just that ignorant?

There was a young lady on AC360-CNN last night who befriended the shooter in school that suggested he was victim of bullying. The extent to which he was physically or verbally bullied was not made clear, but there was some outcasting, allegedly due to his appearance (clothing, etc.)

Where we go too far, unless more specific info comes forward, is assuming ANY of the victims were intended targets in direct retaliation for bullying. Even if there was bullying, assailants in these mass shootings rarely avoid injuring/killing people who had nothing remotely to do with those incidents.

Family discord (parents with a history of violence), disdain over a reported ex-girlfriend, just being systematically outcast by former friends without any physical or verbal assaults, issues with medz... any of these things particularly in combination could push a person over the proverbial edge. That's without a bully even entering the picture.

Towards the victims and their families, there should be nothing but sympathy expressed.

Demetrius Hewlin liked to work out in the gym and wanted to be on the football team. He didn't see time on the field because of eligibility problems. Hewlin, a junior, was one of the several victims shot Monday morning in the Chardon High School cafeteria. Some students said he was shot in the stomach. He was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

Nah. The same people complaining are the ones that do it all the time with black people (i.e. the "why are all black people homophobic" threads) and Muslims (i.e. "they're all terrorists") etc. With notable exceptions, more often than not the perpetrators of this type of event are all the same disposition (angry) and the same race (non-black) and the same gender (male). I might throw in "suburban" as well. Facts are inconvenient, and race/class/gender as it intersects with crime is always a difficult subject.

Actually, I wonder why nobody is concerned about the gender card, as I played it. icon_wink.gif

Cleveland Plain DealerNate {NOTE: kid with the bullet-grazed ear} said his group of friends had once been friends with Lane, but they had gone separate ways in high school, after Lane went through a Goth phase, usually known for black clothes and nonconformist behavior.

Russell {NOTE: deceased victim} had recently started dating Lane's ex-girlfriend, who is home-schooled, Nate said. Court records show Lane had a traffic case in November and a juvenile delinquency case in 2009.

Nate said Lane regularly took the bus to Lake Academy, an alternative school in Willoughby for students with emotional problems, academic deficiencies, family discord, drug and alcohol abuse and other problems. Lane's family has a long history of problems, records show.

Heaping of blame on "gothic lifestyle" in 3, 2, 1... (e.g., see "Asa Coon").

Not enough pearl-clutching chicks with RJ profiles? icon_wink.gif

But really, no, we shouldn't generalize about "the same people complaining" and "the ones that do it all the time," that's too broad (I know I try not to fall into that group!) and too mutually exclusive.

And I don't enjoy the prospect of baited responses from the actual "ones that do it all the time," bringing up DC Snipers and guys like these below, to derail the discussion..

As we know from the types of topics you mentioned above, "More often than not" is still not a reason to paint races with a broad brush.

I didn't paint any race any way. I didn't, for example, say anything about white women, or white kids, or even nice well-adjusted white guys.

    (hehe)

P.S. Six out of thousands of serial killers do not a myth bust: they are merely the exceptions that prove the rule.
