Maybe it's just me, but something seems very strange about the timing of this announcement. I know there has been rumblings that he may be on the short list as a running mate for McCain, but there have also been rumors that he may be gay since he's never been married and 51 years old.

I'm with you, brother. But what if McCain does pick Crist (engaged or not) and then all of a sudden the past 20 years worth of tricks start spilling the beans? McCain needs Florida and he just might be willing to take this chance.

"In July 1979, he married Amanda Marrow, a sorority member of Delta Delta Delta from Palm Beach County. The couple had no children and divorced less than a year later.

In May 1989, Crist denied being the father of a child put up for adoption. Rebecca O'Dell Townsend, nee Wharrie, gave birth to a girl, whom she said was fathered by Crist after a one-time sexual encounter in the fall of 1988. Crist signed an affadavit and other paperwork stating he was denying paternity and claimed no parental rights. The issue came up again in January 2007. Some believe Crist's political enemies raised it, others believe it rose up as an issue because the child was becoming a college bound adult and curious about her birth parents. The St. Petersburg Times questioned the Governor's office about the possibility of DNA testing and were told by the Governor's staff that the question was "inappropriate". [7]

On 3 July 2008, Governor Crist announced his engagement to Carole L. Rome, 38 after being single for over 28 years."

Hmmm nothing. He was outed in an article in a Central Florida weekly newspaper after the 2004 Senate campaign of the always-hilarious Katherine Harris. His lover was one of her campaign advisors. This "engagement" is an attempt to stop those allegations.

I bet he doesn't go to airport restrooms, either.

Why are politicians so afraid to just come out of the closet?! Big deal! If they would just be open and upfront about it there would be no problem. By hiding and then doing things in airport bathrooms or having guys on the side it just causes more problems.

I tend to think that Crist has been vetted thoroughly enough that McCain isn't going to take a chance on him because of the rumors.

I don't treat rumors as fact. And who cares anyway. I think it's just a coincidence. Nevertheless, I believe McCain will likely choose Romney as his VP. Time will tell...

Soooooooooooo Gay! Let's face it, no Republican man over the age of 40 that has also been predominantly single in the state of Florida is straight. There are only two dating pools there: Old Jewish widows and Latino twinks! So it's either spicy cum or kosher snatch. Either way, he's in trouble.

This news came out while Republican Oregon Senator Gordon Smith was chatting about how he is like Obama. Someone wrote "When ever he is up for election Gordon Smith becomes a Democrat just like Charlie Crist becomes heterosexual."

I mean, a 51 year old bachelor I understand. But the guy has been married once and engaged five times.

Crist has been doing Backflips to stay in the running for the VP slot

He turned himself into a republican whore by going back on his promise not to allow offshore drilling
...and now he's tryin to take out the last seemingly open argument not to use him

    ................ Because EVERYONE knows you can't use a Homosexual as a Vice-president
    Republicanism and hypocrisy.... it's priceless

The governor's personal life does not concern me. Given the circumstantial evidence cited, I would say there is a possibility that Crist is not entirely straight but nonetheless this is still speculation. And I actually approve of the job Crist has been doing in my state and would want him to stay here as he has done so much to rebuild the bonds between democrats and republicans and governs from the middle. A lot of Floridians also approve of him with even democrats giving him good reviews.
