“But is the overall goal to get our price” of gasoline down, asked Nunnelee.

“No, the overall goal is to decrease our dependency on oil, to build and strengthen our economy,” Chu replied. “We think that if you consider all these energy policies, including energy efficiency, we think that we can go a long way to becoming less dependent on oil and [diversifying] our supply and we’ll help the American economy and the American consumers.”

At least he was honest. Too bad he is also on record as saying that he was hoping for higher prices and that the Administration's policies to date have been less to find alternatives but have the unfortunate optics of rewarding political supporters. So not only have his policies helped cause the rise in the cost of gas and oil (because of the abandonment of the strong dollar policy), but they will have the unfortunate effect of adding to the already massive debt burden through spending that will have little or worse, absolutely no return.
