I've heard of it but never quite related to it. I suppose the closest I could get to understanding it is a situation like a gay guy coming out and being so relieved at his parents' acceptance that he cries. I'm not so sure if that is happiness making him cry or relief. And if happiness is relief, then what a sad world this is.

I don't think I have personally but probably have during a movie or something.

I do remember my brother and I laughing for no reason for half an hour straight with tears running down our faces. It's happened twice and the last time I laughed so hard I vomited!

This December in the hospital ICU ward. Mom came off the respirator and was sitting up when I came in, breathing on her own, looking a little disoriented but smiling. Sun streaming in the window behind her, the attending Respirologist grinning ear to ear.

I honestly can't recall the last time this happened. Which is bad cause I got a really good memory. I know it wasn't more than 5 years ago, but it must still be bothering me if I can't remember, damn it! Thanks... now I'm going to be trying to figure this out for the next 6 months.

Doug, I'm happy that your mom made it through the ICU. No matter how long her stay was, it can be a traumatic experience for all. I wish her continued health.

Good gosh, THANK YOU hellurs. That made me blink rather rapidly. Yes, I'm a mushy kinda guy.

    warmly,

Bill cried one year at Christmas. He'd lost two dogs that summer, Dexter to a heart attack, Roger his little silky cross, to a looped spinal cord (injury from chasing a ball of all things).
My sister is a very accomplished illustrator and drew a beautiful portrait of each one. I framed them and put them under the tree. He was very very very happy, and cried.

Last time I cried from happiness? At my sister's wedding; she looked so beautiful and was so happy that it made me get all emotional.

The only time I've actually cried from true and pure happiness was when my son was born. It was very unexpected to be honest. I knew I would be happy, but the pure emotion of happiness (which is very rare) was beyond description.

I cried when I came out and have cried when seeing others come out, but it isn't the same. Like the OP said, it's not completely happiness but mixed heavily with relief and acceptance. They coincide with happiness, but it's different somehow. Hard to explain.

A few weeks ago my dog had a surgery. He was asleep for like 2 hours.

The minute I saw him opening his eyes I was so happy and I cried so much! I cried because everything went okay!

I teared up a little when I got the nest-egg cheque that allowed me to complete the move to Vancouver relatively worry-free. Was a big moment for me.
